Emirates says it will cut the London-Sydney journey by about three hours with it’s new A340-500 series services from early next month. With 16’000km range flying Australia Dubai direct in 13.5 hours, Emirates executives said the flights would be two and a half hours shorter than the present Boeing 777 service.
London bound passengers boarding at Sydney and Melbourne will have a single stopover, change aircraft and reach Heathrow in about 20 hours.
Qantas’ Kangaroo Route takes between 23 and 24 hours with stopovers in Singapore or Bangkok.
