London to Brighton veteran car run 2013 – Croydon

entry 088 is a 1901 Milwaukee Steam car.
For your information, you don’t need an MOT for these cars now. However, for purposes of insurance, you will need a boiler cert for a steam car. last year we entered our slightly later 1903 locomobile steam car. Steam cars are mainly American and something of a law (and maybe lore) unto themselves. Wonderful things though, and for a time in America at least, rivaled the internal combustion engine as the way forward.

The tricycle (sometimes described as a forecar) is an 1898 Leon Bollee 4HP. As a lover of early tricycles, quads and motorcycles, this sort of thing to me is what the L2B is all about.

That Cadillac is gorgeous.

It’s funny how much like the Chevrolet Bel Air they look. I’ll bet that didn’t please the Cadillac buyer of the fifties.

Indeed, probably not despite the clues, particularly as he has always publicised the fact he drives a London taxi – or certainly used to. Also looking forward to your finishing line pictures.

In all honesty I think not, however you never know after all the clues are there. A Goatie beard, a Labrador, his love of cars and maybe just maybe that number plate means The Great Fry. We will never know 😮 .

Glad you like the photos Andy, I was looking in the book to see if anything from the collection was running, good luck for next year.

Thanks for posting. We were at Redhill and Crawley at lunchtime. The collection didn’t enter a car this year, but we’re hopeful for next year.

Oh, I love those “gatecrashers”!! A bloke round here drives a Chevvy pick-up exactly like that and my first car was one of those (non-customised) mid-50s black Anglias. Lovely to see the old Citroen corrugated van and a nice shot of the ubiquitous Stephen Fry with his labrador in the Merc!!:eagerness:

I went into London to shop last Saturday and found all these cars on display in Regent Street. I was pleased to see that many of them were American, with Oldsmobile especially well represented.

When I finally get my classic 1971 (Oldsmobile) Delta 98 Regency, I too might gatecrash the Run like the Rolls in the photo did. I think my monster 455 V8 will be able to mix it with a 1902 model.

Here are some of the gatecrashers on the Croydon leg, I reckon your Oldsmobile would mix it well with this lot.

That motorised wheelchair looks positively dangerous.

I bet that steam powered jobbie causes some raised eyebrows at MOT time, still his emissions sensor will come out cleaner than it went in.
