From yahoo news:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050707/140/fmtu4.html
First report I got was saying a tube ‘blast’ was down to a power surge, but not so sure now…
Also getting reports from a mate working close by that a bus has exploded in Tavistock Square. I’m not entirely sure of my geography, so cannot say whether that’s the bus referred to in the report.
Thoughts go out to those who are being caught up in this… 🙁

I cannot necessarily justify our actions as a nation in Iraq and I won’t even start on George Bush…the most dangerous man in the world?? However the terrorists in Iraq claim that they will not stop their campaign until the allies (not just US/UK) withdraw from the country. .
The al queda terror plans started long before the Iran war & Bush being elected.
Remember the Feb 1993 attack on the WTC? The Aug 1997 attack on the US embassies in Africa that only succeded in killing innocent bystanders?
Try to get it through your head that this has nothing to do with Iraq…these people’s hatred of America, and “the West” goes much deeper than that.
I’m afraid that efforts to show we’re sensible and understanding will only be interpreted by these animals as weaknesses.
The UK opposition to the war (as demonstrated by Labour’s problems in the recent election, general anti-US and Bush sentiment) didn’t save 50+ innocent people from being blown up…the terrorists are not some group you can rationally deal with.
It’s been a war for years….now it’s come to the UK. Offering to “understand” these killers sounds a bit like Chamberlain stepping off the lockheed and proclaiming “peace in our time”.

Just arrived back from Menorca and the hotel lowered the British flag to half mast, very respectful.

I shall be there on Monday – it’s gonna take more than Thursdays blasts to keep me away from our beautiful capital. I think that is the best way to show them we will not be beaten – keep going about our normal daily business.
Absolutely. “Business as normal” (or as normal as will be possible). If we let the terrorists rattle us, then they’ll win. That’s one extra reason why I will oppose ID cards even more than before!

I must admit that I am surprised not by the attacks (we all knew they were pretty much inevitable) but by how few people they managed to kill/hurt. Presumably that was their aim so I have to say I believe that our security was the reason that no more people were affected. I’m sure they would have loved to fly an aeroplane into Canary Warf but security in this is country is at the level where that would have been hugely difficult.
My thoughts are with the families of those affected but I am just relieved that the day we always knew would come wasn’t worse. I imagined it would be.
I was in London on Wednesday and was supposed to be on Friday. I had to cancel because the police were telling people to stay away but I shall be there on Monday – it’s gonna take more than Thursdays blasts to keep me away from our beautiful capital. I think that is the best way to show them we will not be beaten – keep going about our normal daily business.

I cannot agree with rdc1000 more. I have just returned from holiday so have only just got back on forum. All i can say is that we have survived more than this, but it is still appalling that some scum that has the nerve to call themselves muslim and even as human beings can condone blowing up innocent individuals. However, don’t forget the last time a little corporal who tried came a cropper (pardon the quote), and i daresay it is only a matter of time before every muslim will abhor these terrorists as much as the people that they maim and kill. (NB, this is NOT an attack on the Muslim population, of whom i have many friends, but a statement of fact that as horrible that it is to admit, there are some who still believe that they will bring about change by terror). I sign off for the moment by saying that with courage we (and our allies) will defeat these scum

I haven’t had a chance to read all of this thread, and my apologies if I repeat anything people have already said, I just wanted to express my view a little.
Basically I think that these guys undertaking such events are extremely naive and extremely narrow minded. I question their understanding of ‘western culture’, do they really think we will bow to this?? To blow people up indiscriminantly just shows that these people are not real humans, cause or no cause this is surely not the way human race should behave. I even question whether events over the last few years have even been in the name of religion, I can’t help but feel that the fundamentalists have lost their religious outlook, and replaced it with a race issue..and why? I’m not sure..is it jealousy? The USA claims that certain Islamic states are a terrorist threat, and so it is almost easier to go and control them, are the terrorists really helping themselves and their nations by encouraging this mentality?
I quote Iraq as an example. I cannot necessarily justify our actions as a nation in Iraq and I won’t even start on George Bush…the most dangerous man in the world?? However the terrorists in Iraq claim that they will not stop their campaign until the allies (not just US/UK) withdraw from the country. From what I understand though the sooner the Government of Iraq is allowed to get on with things and the sooner the violence stops the sooner we can withdraw from the country! So terrorist acts in Iraq and the UK is surely not helping the cause of getting the UK and US to withdraw from the middle east?? Stop blowing people up, and the forces will be gone…it’s that simple!! I’m not naive enough to believe for one minute that there will not be concerns over future governments being ‘influenced’ by western nations, but surely moving towards a democracy should give people the chance to try and stear away from this, you vote for who you WANT in! Again, blowing up innocent people is NOT the answer!
And lets look at other issues, Africa. Does anybody REALLY think that after the events of yesterday the G8 members will really discuss the issue of poverty? NO, surely not, it is now SECURITY, SECURITY, SECURITY!!! There may not ahve beena final resolve on issues of poverty, but the narrow minded idiots responsible for the events in London can probably thanks themselves for ruining the chance of a better life for millions in Africa. Well done once again!!!! Muppets!
I guess many Muslims could rightfully claim that they are being tarred with the same brush as these extremists unnecessarily, and I expect a large number of narrow minded people in the UK will now take their anger out on these people. What we should be doing is seeking better integration and understanding between races/religions/people so that in the long run we can stand together United against naive acts such as this. However as long as such acts take place this is not going to happen. Do these people not realise that they are driving a wedge in which will plunge us into a more vicious circle??
This message is not designed to hurt anybody, I have tried to get across my anger at a small group of people and not at any race or religion. I also hope it makes sense as there are so many points and questions rushing around in my head which I cannot get to work when written out.
Good post. My condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones.
For me all these extremists are basically at a same level. We need to purge ourselves from all the OBLs, Bushs and Blairs who have destroyed our peace of mind by declaring stupid wars against each other. Bunch of loonies.

Anyone else have theories as to how the bombs were delivered?
It might be stating the bleedin’ obvious but I’d imagine by underground train and double decker bus. I dearly hope that, given the way some peoples minds here work, they are not looking into any form of air-ground missile, laser, or even a chain gun. – Nermal
By: Pete_sj - 9th July 2005 at 00:20
I apologize if theories are too soon, Mods please delete if you find this inappropriate.
The starting point or jumping off point seems to be Kings Cross. All the trains and the bus at one time passed through that intersection. It would seem the perpetrators meet at that point, delivered the bombs and probably set it off by remote (possibly using their cell phones). I think if MI-5 concentrated on Kings Cross it would narrow their search.
Anyone else have theories as to how the bombs were delivered?

Deepest sympathies to the folks in London – my second favorite city in the world next to my beloved New York. Six of my friends were murdered in cold blood on September 11, 2001 here in NYC. I also almost lost my brother that day (an FDNY Paramedic). I can say with certainty that all Americans stand shoulder to shoulder with our British cousins.
It is not poverty, lack of education and lack of opportunity that leads to terrorism. In fact, I believe you will find in attacks against the West that terrorists are usually very well educated and come from the middle and so-called upper classes. It is a totalitarian philosophy of hatred and death practiced by sociopaths full of contempt for their peers and self-impressed with their own wisdom. They count on good men and women of all nations and faiths (including their own) to cower, as some in the past have and currently still do, in the hope that the alligator eats them last. That won’t happen with the Brits, it won’t happen with the Americans, and it won’t happen to those who recognize that there is no ignoring, excusing or understanding evil. Theirs is a dead end philosophy that takes comfort in the amount of blood spilled while ours is a civilization that celebrates the fulfillment of human potential.
Today they claim their grievance is Iraq, however that excuse is betrayed as a lie by almost 30 years of terrorist violence perpetrated all around the globe with the blasphemous claim that it was all done in the name of Allah.
The only way they win is if we lose the will to confront them. As for fears of a backlash against Muslims, the same fears were brought up here in the States in the wake of the 9/11/01 attacks, but with extremely rare exception it didn’t happen. Let’s not make the mistake of projecting the evil culture desired by our enemies upon ourselves. It is that tolerance and decency that is the true target of their hatred. We will go on and they will continue to fail to shake us.
God Bless all the good people of the United Kingdom.

Still doesn’t compare to the thousands of innocent Iraqi’s that have been killed recently…….
True, again and again these terrorists show they don’t care about anything except to promote their extremist views. We do not and can not let this kind of thing happen every couple of years. The world most show solidarity for the long haul, not only when innocents get terrorized on the zeroth order. People in London was, is, and will remain strong.

My thoughts and condolences to those killed and injured, their families, Londoners and the British people.

If the terrorists thought they could intimidate the people of the UK, they’re as ignorant of history as they are lacking in humanity.
The people of London have again shown the world what courage means.
God bless those kiilled, their families and friends.

As an ex-Londoner all too familiar with bomb threats and drill, and even real bombs, this is a personal fear made real.
Many don’t realise how long Londoners have faced bomb threats from terrorists. Many of us regarded it as inevitable. What was unknown was the reaction. Good for the Londoners. While it is a black day we can take pride in the reactions and work of those dealing with this. We should be greatful that the casualties are as low as they are – which is in some degree miraculous. Sadly that will be little comfort for those who have lost family members or been hurt in these explosions.
Those friends and family I have managed to track down are fine, and I’m greatful to hear from the forum members who’ve responded as ‘OK’ here.
The name of the terrorist organisations change. The principles stay the same. I wish for open justice and for the killing to stop. Revenge and indiscriminate violence helps no-one.
I’m impressed by the tone and moderation expressed here – sometimes we can be off beam, but humanity and civilisation has come through when it counted.
Amnisty International is an organisation to monitor and publicise torture and breaches of justice. This was indescrimiate murder. Any reaction must be just, not revenge, otherwise we sink to the level of terrorists ourselves.
I hope there will be a minute’s silence at Legends.

I have remained quiet until now for a good reason.
Now I know that three people I hold dear are safe I give thanks and my thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones or have people involved on this terrible day.
I will not bring politics into the debate, but this day need not have happened.
