It would probably end up looking like a gents toilet then. Better tofind those who did it and castrate them to prevent another generation of………………(put you own word in there)
I doubt if people like that have much to castrate…..

Putting a former professional hat on, there is an excellent, cheap and highly effective proofing agent that once applied to semi porous stone or timber renders that material impervious to water, paint or acidic damage. Once applied, this material is invisible and does not alter the appearance of that which has been proofed. It’s a mystery why this ‘common or garden’ proofing agent isn’t routinely applied to any building ancient or modern, that is constructed from semi porous material.
My local cathedral, Chichester is a case in point. Heavily attacked in past years from acidic elements in the atmosphere, the fine detail of the exterior is blunted and eroded. Shame.

More to the point why weren’t the memorials designed with a coating to prevent the spraying happening. In the perfect world we would’nt need it BUT we are in a far from perfect world.

Chill Mr Merry 😮 It was an observation that the culprit pauses to read the inscription on the memorial that led me to believe that he wasn’t an average EDL member. Can’t be many of them that can do that!
Fair point.
Chill pill taken:)

This unhealthy fomenting of hatred serves no purpose nor adds constructively to the debate. The vandalism was appalling but we do not know who did it so until we do, as so often, idle speculation is pointless and provocative.

Do you really think the English defence league would do this? Deface a memorial to 55537 members of bomber command who gave there lives for this country?
I don’t think so. I know you don’t say this, but I’m getting pretty Sick of people spouting off about how we can’t say this group did this that or the other but it’s ok to blame BNP EDL UKIP or who ever. For gods same Britain get some bloody back bone!!! How come that bearded jock can put posters up and get away with? I’ll tell you why, because we’re bloody spineless.
Yes I do think they would, or certain factions within the group would, the same as radical Muslims would. All organisations like BNP, EDL, are intrested in doing is stiring up ratial hatered.
My comment was to suggesting it would be a good idea not jumping to conclusions. We can’t say this group did or didn’t do it because we don’t know who did it yet. Whoever did it should be hung.
However I’m not sure who you mean by the ‘bearded jock’? Is it that British ginger ‘Muslim’ who has been putting up Sharia law stickers, if so I think he needs to lay low for a very long time, quite rightly so.
Do you think I support radicals like Adu Quatada? Please give your head a shake.
From your post I bet you would vote for BNP, EDL, should you have chance.

How can you tell he isn’t an ‘average EDL member’ he’s got a huddy on, he’s on CCTV but you can’t see his face!
Daily Mail readers must have increased by about 500% over the last week.

There was a picture of it being cleaned up in the papers yesterday. Unfortunately it seems to have seeped into the stone of the Bomber Command memorial so I guess it will be expensive to get it fully bacl to what it was.
Yup you will struggle to remove it and jet washing it I would imagine would drive it into the sandstone as it is semi porous… The White House was painted white by the way after the British torched it and stained the sandstone, they couldn’t remove that either and ended up painting the building white.

Don’t you think it a little annoying that everyone is arguing over who should clean it up?
You would hope someone would just step forward and do it.
Before you ask I would be happy to clean it if I was able and lived near to Green Park.
But as to the authorities. Would have been a good PR gesture.

I have always held the view that memorials (including graveyards) should be protected by a specific law. The guilty should be fined twice what the damage will cost to repair. If they have no money then they should be put to hard unpaid work to that value.

I notice CCTV footage has now been released. Without wanting to make a stereotypical statement but in my humble opinion the chap does not look like an average EDL member. I’m with Percy on this one, time for a bit of back bone.
By: Percypointer - 30th May 2013 at 13:17
Is it Muslims? Wouldn’t surprise me if the EDL do it to stur up more hatred.

I know nothing about the EDL but, with regard to the point, they seem to be more of a protest organisation than a political party or organisation. One test would be: do they have a manifesto? Are they of the ‘left’ or ‘right’ or, just down the middle?
Help for Heroes is a charity. Their business is appealing for money and distributing it according to need, and all money received should be welcome, regardless of perceived taint. It is practically impossible for any charity to check the source of their cash.
By: David_Kavangh - 30th May 2013 at 10:38
EDL is a political organisation. H4H as a charity cannot, or should not, accept donation from political organisations. Would apply to a donation from Cons, Labs, or Libdems.
By: David Burke - 30th May 2013 at 10:28
I am not sure that Help for Heroes should be refusing donations. As far as I can see the charity isn’t politically aligned – will it be a case where future donations will need to be vetted to ensure that they don’t come from anyone with views not aligned with the charity ?
By: David_Kavangh - 30th May 2013 at 09:34
Well the suspect can’t say he didn’t know what he was spraying the graffiti on because he has a good look at the memorial first.

Very sad! There’s so many words I can describe this by, most best better kept to one’s self… I find it also to be hypocritical, and contradictive even, these extremists lecture the world on how bad the UK is yet they’re the first to come over here and take advantage of what this country has to offer them, certainly more than the British citizens born and raised here. Yet, some extremist hypocrite(s) decide to vandalise a British War Memorial erected in honour of those who fought and gave their lives to stop the Nazi filth from taking over Great Britain, turning it into a racist, fascist colony of the Nazi Empire… whom of which, if they had succeeded in doing so, wouldn’t have even come close of letting these extremist scumbags onto the islands and receive anything they demanded or claimed political incorrectness for not getting what they demand. They really are sad, pathetic little people that are an embarrassment to their race and religion!
And, good on Help for Heroes for refusing donations from that other racist lot, “English Defence League!”
