Lone Star Flight Museum – Hurricane Ike

Small update from the WWW. All of the aircraft have now been flushed with clean water and corrosionX applied. All of the vehicles and some of the engines have also been flushed with fresh water. Link here with video of the hurrican fighter:

LSFM Museum aside

This has to be a major for museums generally in America, these hurricranes seem to becoming a feature of the gulf coast and tornados in the mid west.

I can’t help wondering what can be done in the longer term, sure you can build structures that will resist the sort of damage as occurred here – but at what cost.

I sincerely hope that the LSFM is able to recover and that its exhibits are able to be bought back to pre-hurricrane standard.

I spent a fantastic New Years Day 2008 at the LSFM whilst on vacation. It was a fantastic venue and such a collection. Really sad to see this guys, hope you recover quickly. A few pictures from that day:

The sadness continues: The static aircraft and rebuilds have all been saturated with salt water, but no fresh water supply has been restored yet for hosing down and preventing corrosion. Positively tragic.

This sounds like an awful event for our American friends.

Come on, everyone, how about we give some encouragement to those at the Lone Star flight Museum with a few posts on this thread?
