In Germany, work is underway to recreate a FW-190D, the “long nosed” , and according to me the most beautifulll, version of the famous fighter. The German Motobende association is currently restoring a Jumo 211 engine, that will be installed in a FW-190 made by Flugwerk, in so recreating a FW-190D. FlugWerk is already known for (re)building 12 flying FW-190A8/N’s, which by now must “hit” the 2002 airshow scene. (Does anyone know how many of these are in Europe, or did they all go “over the Ocean”?).

RE: “Long nose ” FW-190 coming
David, you’re spot on. I bought Flypast and Aeroplane at the weekend, and they both say the same thing. Sorry for the confusion… :0

Steve – I believe that they basically deliver you a kit nearly ready to assemble . It’s then down to the owner to do the rest and carry out the local certification.

Presumably, if Rudi Frasca’s already taken delivery of one, the first flight may already have taken place…? Surprised they kept it quiet if that’s the case though.

There is no ban in Germany on German warbirds. It is only not allowed to paint a swastuika on the tail.

Some chance, the paper work can take as long as the restoration. Isnt there some rule that bans German warbirds in Germany? If so could it be flown in Rumanian colours or simply bare metal?

RE: “Long nose ” FW-190 coming
I was told that they wanted a flying 190 at the Berlin ILA, so if this is true, there must be a flying example around in the second week of May.

Odd that.
I really think the short-nosed FWs are so much better looking
Still if we all shared the same tastes every girl in the world would want to go out with me and it’d be soooooo tiring.

Talking standard short-nose FW190’s, the news page of Aeroplane Monthly’s website reports that Illinois-based collector Rudi Frasca has taken delivery of one of the FlugWerk FW190’s. I haven’t seen the article yet, so can’t expand on that, sorry.

I have no clue about the price, but it must be around 1.000.000 USD.

RE: “Long nose ” FW-190 coming
So far as I know the only example to be completed so far has been bought by a South African businessman.I don’t know about the ownership of other projects. As for them hitting the display season this year,I’d doubt it as the first one has yet to fly.Last I heard various systems were still being installed and snags ironed out.
It would be nice to think that the D-9 will be operated in the UK/Europe when she is completed.Any idea of the asking price??
