Long shot- can you ID this picture?

Longest shot for a while, but can anyone cast light on where this image was published? It looks like a wartime period publication and on the reverse part of an article about airmail for those serving overseas is visible.

Thanks

Many a true word spoken in jest. The cutting is part of a small archive recently purchased to a 148 Squadron dispatcher-operating in N Africa and then Italy. (He is front left). From other photos his crew occupy more or less the front two rows. Unfortunately the cutting isn’t captioned. Thanks for the pointers.

Stan,

Not jesting.

My hunch was that the long document pinned to the wall is the coastline of North Africa.

Some interpretation points to consider:-

It is a posed photo.

Polished shoes and crossed legs.

Dress is temperate climes….UK.

It is taken from an elevation the same height as the instructor on the ladder.

There are aircrew officers and sergeants wearing Pilots wings and single wing air insignia

It is not a pre mission briefing.

It appears to be a classroom lecture.

The key seems to be the the long document or map pinned to the wall over the general ‘recognition’ paraphernalia.

“You, gentlemen, are off to North Africa.”

Well…. and this is also a long shot – could be a classroom scene from an Airfield Defence School (Airfield Gunners) – as my Grandfather was an instructor on one such school during or post WW2. This picture may well be some kind of handbook from such a school, as it shows the aircraft recognition posters and models. I have 2 of those bakelite models from my Grandfather’s days in my collection here – He 111, and Beaufighter (yes they had to recognise ours too).
