You’re gonna need a bigger boat!

How many channels does it have?

The Spitfire flies just fine as a model with scale size tail surfaces and scale airfoil as long as you get the C of G in the right spot. I’ve had several and am working on several more as we speak. Can’t have too many Spitfires!

Absolutely incredible! Know anyone with a like-sized ME 109 or Stuka? You could really blow some minds!
Must have been a labor of love to build that hummer! WOW!
As far as the mug, try a leather flying helmet and flying goggles? Oxygen mask optional!

Here’s my beauty
A few of you may be familiar with my Mick Reeves 1/6th scale Spitfire Mk.IXc. Here is a picture to show it’s size, not very well i’m afraid cos the ugly mug propping it up just happens to be about 6′ 5″! But you get the idea. This model is 100% scale in design, perhaps not entirely in detail, but the shape, aspect ratio, wing section, wash out etc is all as per the full size.
How does she fly? absolutely beautifully! 😀 😀 😀

Where are you supposed to store your overnight bag?

Has anyone ever considered that these are real Spitifires, and the GUYS are huge!?!?!
Over in Texas they have an annual RC flying event where it is mostly B17s, B29s that are about 15 feet across… Never been to one but the pictures are incredible!

I always thought it was the same principle as on the WAR Aircraft – scale the flying surfaces down to the right scale size, and you have an interesting flying experience…
The Cambrian range of funfighters all have a scaled-up horizontal tail…

In reply to those who commented on the fact that the tailplane looks too big: I have no idea why but scale models always seem to require an out of scale tailplane/elevator. Actually, on giving the matter mor thought, could it be that the engine in a model is so much a larger percentage of the aircraft’s weight than the rear fuselage that a disproportionately large tailplane and elevator are required for control?

If you think that first one’s big….
By: merlin70 - 6th October 2004 at 09:13
Ooh that’s big. [actress]
By: DazDaMan - 6th October 2004 at 08:23
Ahh, fair enough. Yes the tail does look a bit wrong to me. There are other pics on the site showing the Spit in some detail.

I realize they are not the same bird Daz, just directing whitleyfreak to a similar size Spit that will be available to the masses. The horizontal stab on the MkXIV looks all out of whack to me. Wish I could see the nose!
By: DazDaMan - 5th October 2004 at 08:17
The one in my link is a MkXIV – not sure, but I think it was probably an own-design job.

Where can I get my arms on one of those!?!
Soon to be available from “Practical Models” (hardly), a 1/3 scale Spitfire IX. That’s a tad over 147 inches from tip to tip!
