As well as being ugly, I can remember them being referred to as “working girls” because they had no visible means of support.

I thought that tool was a Birmingham screwdriver.
If I remember correctly, the one in his right hand is the ‘Birmingham screwdriver’. The other one might be variously described as a ‘left handed screwdriver’ or even a ‘long weight’ (if dangled from the thin end, and depending on the time elapsed from the request to provide it). Doubtless there are many variations!:D

There’s been a lick or two of paint applied since i saw those in September 2009.
The adjacent museum is very interesting for those with an interest in broader military history, even with limited Polish language skills!

I visited the Warsaw museum many years ago – when the exhibits were in a poor condition.
They have obviously had some TLC of late – is the Tu-2 still there?? – it was the worst condition of them all.
When I visited, we wondered if the main building next door housed any more aviation/military displays, so we went in and paid the admission fee.
As we ascended into the upper galleries we realised that it was an art museum – with lots of paintings of religious art and icons.
We stayed for as long as we thought appropriate for a couple of punters who were not in the least bit interested in the cultural displays (about a minute) – and beat a hasty retreat.
Much to the amusement of the ladies at reception………

Yes… Pe2 (Apparently the most numerous WW2 twin.)
The good news is (If you can believe Wikipedia) that there is a new museum being built. If so we can only hope these airframes will find their way indoors.
Meantime I was very amused by the information board on this exhibit “Awaiting restoration”
That should take a pound or three of body filler

In response to #11 I am reminded of one of my Techs who said his favourite phrase was ‘Chiefy’ saying “Fetch me a bigger ‘ammer”

They do look to be in very nice condition. I wonder if they cover them in the winter,
or they’ve just had a recent lick of paint ?

IL-2’s are built like a proverbial BSH that thing will still be there in fossil form long after we’re all gone.

Can you imagine a similar display in your average British town or city? – It would soon be vandalised, paint-daubed and then set on fire in no time at all.
Nice condition aeroplane and artefacts. Do they have an Inspector of Displays and a mobile restoration team who take care of these things, I wonder?
