Looking for a crash site in Germany – Where do I start?

Hello,

Can anyone help me? I’m trying to locate a crash site in Germany. All I know is that the aircraft (a Lancaster) was shot down near Leverkusen. Does anyone have an idea where I can start looking for the crash site? I’m happy to visit Leverkusen and talk to people, but I think I need to try and narrow down the search area first!

Cany anyone direct me towards any officials here in the UK that might be able to help?

Many thanks…

My grandfather was one of the crew who survived this incident and made it back to the UK (Sgt Tadeusz Picho) and I, and his daughter, would very much like to be in contact with anyone who may have further information and who may have known my grandfather – as we have very little information.

I’ve seen the obvious stiff that is already on the internet

In view of what follows in the post from which the above quote is taken, VX927, might you want to amend it – at least to replace the word ‘stiff’ with stuff!

Kev

The aircraft in question was Lancaster BH-J PB722, 300 (Polish) Squadron. The incident happened on 21st February 1945.

I’ve seen the obvious stuff that is already on the internet.

I know that S/Ldn Jan Konarzewski (Pilot) and his navigator Sgt Stanislaw Modrany were both killed.

Flt Sgt Wladyslaw Jakimowicz was taken prisoner.

Sgt Roman Burkacki, Sgt Tadeusz Picho, Sgt Antoni Gorczycki & Sgt Zenon Raczynski all survived and returned to England. A lot of documentation says that they evaded capture, but I know that Antoni Gorczycki was taken POW at some point.

My friends grandfather was on the aircraft (Gorczycki). He’s no longer with us, but we would like to try and locate the crash site!

Do you know the identity of the aircraft or at least the date of the loss? Do you know any of the crew names as that might help also?
