Looking for a Vapour Cycle System – Any Ideas?

Hi Everyone, This is my first post here and its pretty unusual. I need to get hold of a vapour cycle system with a 5.5kW cooling capability (approx. 19000btu/h) and it needs to run on 28V DC. This in itself is not a problem, but the next requirement is – we need to have it fitted to an aircraft within the next 8 weeks, so it needs to be off the shelf (we could potentially use a smaller system if its all thats available). Any one got any ideas – perhaps a parts broker, breaker or service centre? We’ve tried all the normal manufacturers / suppliers that we normally deal with. Thanks in advance.

Hi

You might be able to find a system from the aircraft salvage companies – aircraft like the Beech 200 and 1900. SW Metros – etc. had them installed – if I remember correctly the King Air 200 was about a 18,000 btu system – double that with the aft evaporator installed. Try a look at Trade-A-Plane in the States or on Landings.

I am assuming this is needed for an aircraft – if not then check out the bigger truck companies – many of these units run 24 volt systems as well.

Remember that you will need a time delay in the system to turn on the compressor after shutdown – an immediate re-application of the compressor clutch after a disconnect will cause super high stress on the drive system – often breaking it – usually about 10 – 15 seconds time delay is sufficient to allow the high pressure side to equalize enough so that the next start-up doesn’t cause catastrophic failure. The King Air has the timer on a printed circuit board located under the floor – but you would need the wiring diagram to figure it out – any competent sparky should be able to design a timer interrupt circuit for the compressor clutch.

Good luck in the hunt.

Tis a cooling system using Freon, mainly used for air conditioning systems on larger a/c, also can be used to cool instrument panels etc etc, your typical fridge may have a vapour cycle system 🙂 (been up since 5am, can’t be bothered to get my ATPL notes out)

I think you may be barking up entirely the wrong tree here. Have you thought about Pprune?

If they are honest, most here wouldn’t know a Vapour Cycle system if it fell on their heads, let alone where to lay their hands on one….

Not nasty, but true, I suspect.
