Looking for a forum thread from 15 years ago (+ or -).
I have tried the search function here without success.
Perhaps someone has better access…
The thread mentioned a German bomber (He-111, IIRC) that was brought down in the Battle of Britain in the Kent village of Stodmarsh NE of Canterbury.
It came down on the farm of a family friend. My friend’s father was a young man at the time and owned the farm.
Someone supplied photos which the family did not have. Back in the glory days of this forum, someone came through with all manner of information on the event in no time at all.
If anyone has those photos, or even access to the old thread, I’d appreciate it. They had copies of those photos, but with the passing of my friend’s father a decade ago (at 101!), they have been lost.
Thanks.

In checking with the family, it was the Paxton Farm Do. 17, so
I’ll send Mr. Gray a PM in case he can send a scan or link to the family directly.
Many thanks!

AA, I have come across two entries in Aeromilitaria for crashes at Stodmarsh – Dornier 17Z U5+ER of 7/KG2 at Paxton Farm on the 13th August 1940 and, on the 16th of the same month, another Do17Z of 3/KG2. Paxton Farm the more likely one possibly given J Boyle’s description of the event?
Such a pity that so many photos and much information was lost in the transfer of the forum a few years ago.

It’s a shame that the old thread is now ‘sans photos’ because it makes it difficult to determine whether it identified the He.111 in the now absent photo. But if it was the 16 August 1940 crash, another source (q.v.http://sussexhistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=476.msg30582#msg30582) says that it was G1+FR of 7K/G55 (werke nommer 1582). That source has three photographs of the crashed Heinkel at High Salvington.

I believe the scans are still in my Flickr stream, annoyingly I don’t seem to have tagged them and I don’t have time to look for them today. However if you search Flickr for gray1720 you should find me, and start looking through the earliest photos!
I’ll try to have a look myself when I have a few more minutes, kick me if you don’t hear anything.

I think this is the thread you are looking for but it seems incomplete now and without photos. Hopefully adrian_gray will be along soon and able to help out again 🙂
