Hello everyone
I’m busy making Italeri’s 1/72 Stirling Mk.I, and need to add a bit of detailing for the upper turret, an FN7. I’ve managed to find only a couple of useful photos so far, one in the book ‘British Aircraft Armament, Volume 1’ by R W Clarke, and the one on this page:

Can anyone help? Photos, drawings, anything that may show the internals and structure.
Thanks
Simon

Thanks for the pointer AM. That image is very useful, but I’d like to see the turret from the opposite direction, showing the details on that side.
I’m building the Italeri Stirling Mk.I, which is light years ahead of the venerable 1966 Airfix kit, but could do with some extra bits and bobs in all three turrets. Here’s what I’ve managed to do with the tail turret, with the scratch-built bits in white:

The photo is from AP1659A, Vol. I which covers the early FN turrets, inc FN7. It has lots of line drawings which illustrate the structure and fittings if you really want them.
To be honest though, and not being a modeller, I would think there’s enough detail there to create a fair resemblance in 1/72nd scale? Don’t shout at me, all my models made do with two bits of black painted rod sticking out of a lump of clear Airfix plastic (with smudges of glue all over it)!

Thanks Windhover. Unfortunately that’s the image that’s in to book ‘British Aircraft Armament, Volume 1’ by R W Clarke. 🙂

Hi Simon
We’ve got an FN7 cupola on display at Wytons’ Pathfinder museum, I can ask if they’ve got any good photos of it which I can forward on to you
