Hello all
First time poster here, the site was recommended by a fellow airplane modeler on another site, happy to be aboard. I am looking for info, hopefully including intel reports, on these 2 He-111 crashes in England
First

I haven’t been able to get good info the unit marking despite my best efforts, and it has been fascinating to me for years. The info I have is:
This is Heinkel He-111 H-2 Werke Nr. 3305 V4+HV of Kampfgeschwader 1 “Hindenburg”. It was shot down by Pilot Officer Greenwood of 253 Squadron on 30th August 1940 following an attack on Farnborough aerodrome, force landing at Haxted Farm, Lingfield at 11:35am.
Gefr. Reis Killed. Fw. Schnable, Uffz. Paeslack both wounded and captured together with Uffz. Staerk and Gefr. Groth.
The second one is here:

The info I have on it is:
This is Heinkel He 111P Werke Nr. 1582 G1+FR of Kampfgeschwader 55.
It was shot down during a sortie to attack the Great West Aerodrome (or Harmondsworth…or better known today as Heathrow Airport!) on the 16th August 1940. It was attacked by RAF fighters over the Brighton area and force landed at High Salvington in Sussex. Uffz. Weber and Gefr. Moorfeld killed. Uffz Hornbostel, Gefr. Glaser and Lt. Theobald all captured.
Any additional info especially as to markings, colors, etc… would be very helpful. Color profiles would be great as well. I am planning on doing a crashed He-111 diorama in 1/32 scale in the future, and one of these would be the perfect subject.
Thanks everyone
Jason

The He 111P crash near Worthing on August 16, 1940 was the subject of an excellent softback booklet entitled A German Bomber On Worthing Soil by local author Graham Lelliott published in 2006 at a price of 4.99 GBP. I picked up an author signed copy from a local bookshop in Rustington but alas it has since closed.
The book contains many pictures and the text is well researched from eye witness accounts. There are a couple of used copies on Amazon at about 10 GBP.
The Wk Nr is confirmed as 1582 not only by a photograph showing it on the rudder but also by a pic of the manufacturer’s data plate which somebody has.

This is what Barry Rosch has for both in his “work in progress” Luftwaffe Database:
As for colours, I suspect that standard RLM70/RLM71/RLM65 splinter camouflage schemes were emplyed on both.
G1+FR had a white aircraft letter (F) and may well have had white propeller spinners too
V4+HV may well have had a red aircraft letter (H) and red spinners, However, the aircraft letter H may have been black with a red outline too…
Cheers

Hi, Welcome to the forum, regarding your questions I can add the following:
He 111 P 1582 G1+FR 7/KG 55
Honeysuckle Lane, High Salvington, nr Worthing, Sussex. Shot down by fighters; between 300 to 400 .303 bullet holes were found in the aircraft but no armour plate was perforated. Markings: F in white and spinners also white. Engines: DB 601.
The photos showing the wrecked aircraft come from the Steve Hall collection, there is also a good book that Steve put together regarding KG55, worth getting if you can.
The other aircraft of KG1 I only have the A.I.(k) Intelligence report, doesn’t really help alot but you might find it interesting.
Regards
Melvin

Both these crashes, if your dates arecorrect should be covered in the forthcoming Luftwaffe Crash Archive Vol 2 edited by Nigel Parker.

You could also try the publication The Battle of Britain: Then and Now. Unfortunately I do not have a copy.
In the meantime a real aviation historian on this forum might be able to help further.
