I´m looking for information about Luscombe 8A that was at one time registered in Kenya as VP-KDD. The c/n was 946. So far I´ve been able to piece to gether the following.
It was first registered as NC 97898 in the US. It would be very good to know when this registration was first taken up. Next it pops up in Kenya as serial number K-29, part of the Kenya Auxiliary Air Unit. With the google-ing I´ve been doing, it seems the KAAU was an RAF unit that operated various flights in second line duties. Again it, with the google-ing I´ve done, all mention of the KAAU seems to disappear after August 1942. Does anyone know better, and better still have the time of entry into service and retirement of the Luscombe?
From what I´ve gathered, it first civilian registration was VP-KCW. That registration was used on a Dragon Rapide of East African Airways from 1945 until 1955! Is it possible the Luscombe used this reg. before or after the Rapide? At some time it got the Reg. VP-KDD and later 5Y-KDD.
Later it goes to Cote d´Ivoire as TU-TLS, then to the US as N-23023 and then to Switzerland as HB-DVW. If anyone has dates for these transfers, I would be very greatful.
This aircraft was destroyed in a mid air collision on the 1st of September 2004 in Switzerland.
Any pictures of it in service would be great!
Thanks,
