Hello,
I’m looking for a bomb trolley… Does anyone know where I might be able to find one?
The ideal one would be a Type F trolley as shown in the photograph below.
I had a lead on one a few weeks ago, but it hasn’t come to anything just yet, so I thought I’d ask on here and see if anyone known of any?
Many thanks

Hi, I’ve got one for sale if you want it. It was originally used for a Lightning cockpit section, but I needed to be able to move the cockpit round the garage more easily and this was a bit unwieldy, so I’ve made up a new cradle using four swivel caster wheels rated to 1000kg each and I can spin it in its own length. If you’re putting a Lightning on it, I’ve used the original box section rear support which was fabricated at Coltishall (not original to the bomb troilley, of course) but you can take any measurements you want and if you make up an identical cradle it will fit your Lightning. I don’t know what type the trolley is, but it’s perfect for a Lightning. I’ll try to upload a couple of photos for you, showing the trolley and what your Lightning will look like one day!
Charles
Please would you mind sending a pm of the details and what you want for it as we have a couple of cockpits sitting on pallets and hard to move around and it would be an ideal tool for us.
Thanks

So is the restoration still going ahead?
Most defiantly yes! My description of her is a little harsh but I prefer to play things down. I think most of the people on here know she’s a mess… And she is. But she’s a solid mess and can be restored!
I’ve had a lot of help from a few people and I am extremely grateful to them – You know who you are!!!!
To the people who have sent leads via PM – Thank you. I will chase them all up tomorrow.
In the mean time, if anyone else knows of any, please let me know!
Thank you all!

It’s XX722 was used by the refinishing and painting section (hence it always appeared in new colours, demobbed pic here,http://www.demobbed.org.uk/image_view.php?a=24301&s=xx722.jpg) of the training school at St Athan.
It’s disappeared off the ‘radar’ now though.

A farmer friend used to have a bunch of those F Type bomb trolleys, we sent the last one found up to Doncaster for spares. I’ll ask him if he knows of (or has) any more. His Dad, like a lot of other farmers post war bought them to move things around the farm.

Just to cheer Anne up, I saw 5 or 6 of the old classic trolley accs in the disposal pen at Mawgan, I couldn’t touch any of them (local operator wanted one), but the based regiment later turned them into Roman chariots for a do!
As long as they were Mk.5s that sounds like a splendid thing to do to them.

Yep definitely an F Type, tell you what the weight of these things is something else.
VX927 no apologies needed, well done on saving the beast, and good luck with your endeavours:)
I was offered the pictured trollies and two more modern HDU and ammo trollies, the modern ones were better for weight and ground clearance wise, but not a patch on the strength of an F.
I will do some digging around at work on Weds, but the place has pretty well been cleaned out.
The trolly is TonyTs link looks capable, but I think it will get a good price.

Although I love it to bits and am delighted to have been able to save her, I have taken to describing her (XN728) as 2 tonne of scrap shaped like a Lightning!!!!!
