Gooday All
Looking for a couple of spare parts for my Auster J5 – the bits are the port and starboard special bolts that lock the trim tab control cables onto the trim tab horns – see attached image of where the go.
Any suggestions on where to obtain spare parts for Austers welcome.
cheers

Avro Avian
Some interesting projects there, sorry I wrote down J1/B instead of J5B. Appart from a Mk III, I think my next preference in Austers is the J5B
With the Avro Avian, what are the drawings of, is there sufficient detail to build a replica. Lang Kidby rebuild a Avro Avian so we have some local knowledge about Avians. I have had a theory for a while that that we need some good original replica projects that can be built under the experimental category.
An Avro Avian would fit the bill with a “converted to upright” Gipsy Major as the power plant.
I wonder what became of Lang’s Avian?
cheers

For some time now, it has looked like this:
Are you sure that you didn’t acquire a set of Agricola drawings by mistake – or maybe the wings will be a in different position before they feel the wind under them again!

No, I do not have any Agricola drawings and it did not have a heavy landing either!:D
I managed to collar my brother one day to move some crap around and thought it would be a good idea to get a photo of the ‘big bits’.
In regard to building an Avian as a sport replica, that would be a great idea. It’s relative straight forward to construct and there would be a number of engine options. As well as uprighting a Gypsy Major, I would also look at a LOM/Walter Mikron, or for something different, a Rotec Radial. I personally quite like the lines of the original Genet installation in the Avian.
Lang Kidby’s Avian now resides in the USA with Greg Herrick and I am reliably told, enjoyed by all who get to fly it.

Hello Flying a 1948 Auster mk6, and would like to convert it to dual controls, if you could give me the contact information that would be very helpful.
Thank you.

Thanks Blue Max
I think you might be referring to the Leicester Museum of Technology.

That is a real good lead and I will follow it up.

PS – For all those Percival Proctor people out there, I am still working on my Proctor Project, be it a bit more slowly. The Auster was meant to be a quick touch up, but things are taking longer than I planned.

Thanks to you both, I see that IAP have a web site with contact details. I don’t have any contact details for Auster Spares and would appreciate same.
I have located the Light Aero Spares web site – very interesting. Shame the currency exchange rates been Australian dollar and UK pound make purchasing things from the UK so expensive or I could get carried away.
I know this is a bit of a silly question because Austers seem to have been almost custom built (almost as a cottage industry) but is there any detailed drawings about.
A good example of this is I have 2 J/5 oil tanks and the drain bung at the bottom seems to be a different size one-to-the-other. Seems like in post-war Britain they made do with what was available.
thanks for the info
cheers

Have you tried IAP at Bankstown? Bit closer to home for you.

This is one for me…..
Do you have the contact details for David Baker at Auster spares in the UK? He should have the item in stock or try Light Aero Spares if you have the part number.

Gooday All
There must be a couple of Auster owners that frequent this board that know about what Auster spares are about or what drawings exist so new bits can be fabricated.
The Auster Club web site is a nice site but short on this type of information. Being in Australia I am a bit far away to know the Auster situation in Britain, there is a healthy number of Austers out here, but I don’t know many (Yet!).
Any Auster owner out there that can supply a couple of leads? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Give me my trusty Tiger Moth and the DH Moth Club for this type of support (Well done Moth Club.)
cheers
