LORD OF WAR – FILM – WARBIRD INTEREST?

On general release at your local multiplex is this new Nicholas Cage movie about arms dealing, based on a true story – bit of action, yes – but thought provoking also (sample quote – ‘there is one firearm for every twelve people on the planet- the only question is how do we arm the other 11’?)

So what do you get, aircraft wise – well pretty early on you suss it was made in South Africa as at an ‘arms fair in the early 80s’ we see the Beachy Head Hunter and Bucc….later there is an air to air sequence with an L-39 and An-12 (both ZU- reg’d) which gets shot down-then later in a marvellous sequence gets dismantled…(worth seeing the movie for this alone)

Anyone else seen it? What did you think?

Lord of war is a very good film especially the opening sceen with the bullet. but there was a few bits that were a bit obvious, like the car and his uncle they drew so much attention to it it was obvious what was going to happen. But Bridget Moyanhan (his wife) makes me proud to be irish!

I thought it was great – the baddie (dog) in the red barons Fokker (Tripehund surely 😀 ) and good old Gromit in an RAF marked bipe…I assume a ‘pup’!

Especially when they had to stop to put in more change! 😀

Sorry, had to watch Wallace & Gromit with the kids instead, which also has an air-to-air battle scene, but probably not of the same interest to the forum as your film….

I dunno, it features a sort-of lookalike Fokker Triplane (Tripehound?) and Sopwith Pup….

yep I watched it. the missus hated it – thought it was the dullest film ever. as a bloke I loved it….. bit slow…. but very amusing in places. guns, planes and boats – what more can a bloke ask for in a film. loved it when you see the two African chaps pushing the front undercart down that track! the planes stripping was good to watch…… bit like a ‘roller’ left in Liverpool over night!! just kidding……

good film if you ask me…. not as lively as I thought so don’t go and see it if you are after all out action.

Made my 2.5 year old sit through Top Gun the other day after visiting Lakenheath though…..
