During the 1950s the Blackburn Buccaneer was designed and built with outstanding low level ride stability. Twenty years later the Panavia Tornado was built as a low level supersonic ground attack bomber but its low level ride characteristics are inferior to the aircraft it replaced.
Why is it designers in the 50s can build aircraft with very good low level abilities yet 20 years later as technologies improve designers seem less able to?
