I was sitting at home today and around 16:00 there was a loud bang, it was very loud and about 1/2 second long. Car alarms went off and my windows shook. I went outside expecting my van to have a car stuffed into it. But nothing? All the neighbours were out up and down the street all wondering what it was. Now the sky was clear’ish ie no thunder. There was no smoke or damage and the local news have not mentioned it.
Now we are on the flight path to LBA. I am not thinking a plane went down as there has been no smoke etc. We do get the RAF in from time to time could it be a sonic boom, yes it sounds daft but could a pilot of got carried away,I didnt see any RAF jets, but he would be long gone I assume.
The bang was heard up to nine miles away (at my wifes school) but it was a distant sound and the child minder who lives 1/2 a mile away heard it but did not think was was anything unusual, i’m at a loss as to what it may have been?
Any ideas?

Probably practicing intercepts for the Olympics, sort of verboten to do them overland normally… Wonder if someone is in the poo…. Btw they don’t sound very loud at all when you are inside them 🙂

a Typhoon did a sonic boom directly at Shrewsbury about 2 years ago, windows rattled etc as it was heard within an area of 1-2 miles. the aircraft developed a major air leak out of crew compartment and he had to decend rapidly to lower altitude.
that was his excuse anyway lol
as regards yours, it could have been a gas bottle blowing up, this happened near my home as well and it made a hellava bang but this was not on the same day as the sonic boom i might add

What?
They have Typhoons in the Olympics?
Suddenly, the Supersonic Event gives an appeal to the Games that (for me) has thus far been sadly lacking.
Can I exchange my front row tickets for the ladies volleyball event for the very fast aeroplane event, please?

Just seen it on “Look North” T.V. It was a sonic bang, it made the ground rumble but no siezmic readings shown.
