Thanks guys for the info. I am reading the diaries of his daugther, during partition and the York gets commented on a lot, and just wondered if it was still around.

My Father, who was in Changi during his national service, once told be that it was written off because the metal was too thin to repair, due to the excessive polishing. Sounds as if there may be some truth in that.
This subject has been written about recently on my forum, these VIP aircraft were highly polished so much so that you could see a mirage image of yourself in the skin. Thankfully my job lasted long enough for me not to get the polishing cloths out on a turn round!:p Except of course for the use of a rag spanner when needed

Pranged at Changi when with FECs Far East Communications Squadron. She was indeed the highly polished steed of Lord Louis with pop rivets doing just that popping out from the highly polished finish with Wadpol or whatever. The RAF Mauripur Association newsletter Sandspit had an article written up about this when Mauripur was both an Indian and Pakistani Staging Post of the RAF. 102 was a frequent visitor

Is this the one?

According to my Profile Publications ‘Avro York’, MW102 was the VIP aircraft used by Lord Louis Mountbatten when C.inC. S.E.A.C. Wether he used the same aircraft when Viceroy it doesn’t say, and it gives no clue to any further history.
