RE: Low Flying
Now there is one good looking aeroplane! 🙂 Personally I reckon the sleek-nosed Hercules-powered models were better lookers than the earlier ones (not to say that they were ‘ugly’ as such). They performed somewhat better aswell!

RE: Low Flying
Low-level Flying = Mosquito (Or Beaufighter)
Has anyone ever seen the Air Ministry film “Cooks Tour”?
Mossies going in at very very low level, and navigation hazards being identified as…. “Clock Tower Skipper” -lol
Fine film….
But to get you properly excited, here’s some Beaufighter stuff… Steve, you’ve seen this before :0) http://www.oldcmp.net/ns1.html

Tut tut, I wouldn’t DREAM of doctoring a photograph old boy.
I have a super photo of a Lancaster doing some ULTRA low flying on my hard drive, want to see it?

RE: Low Flying
Hmm, funny you should mention it being doctored, I thought exactly the same when I looked but wasn’t sure whether it was just the resolution of the jpeg.
Anyway, just like to say there’s nothing wrong with low-level ordnance delivery – Beaufighters managed to do it pretty well. Now THERE’s a real aeroplane for you; big pair of Hercs followed by a lump of sheer agression packing machine guns / cannons / bombs / rockets / torpedo, take your pick.
I’d certainly rather be in one, than facing one. But then I’m biased, and proud of it! 🙂

RE: Low Flying
That picture looks suspiciously like it’s been doctored to me. Either that, or it’s a Halifax showing off it’s maximum bombing altitude with a full load again!!!
