Lt Peter Ehrhardt 5./NJG5

Does anybody have any information on Lt (later Oblt) Peter Ehrhardt, Kapitan of 5./NJG5 in August 1943?

I’m looking for anything and everything, but particularly any photos of him and of his newly Schräge Musik equipped Bf110 nightfighter around the time of the Peenemunde raid of 17/18 August 1943.

I received my copies of Theo Boiten’s Nachtjagd War Diaries yesterday and i have to say that at first glance they are an excellent addition to my bookshelf. A big WELL DONE to the author/s.

But a matter of great personal import to me; Theo squarely identifies my Uncle’s aircraft (619 Sqdn Lancaster EE147) as Lt Peter Ehrhardt’s 4th and last victim of the night, scored with his newly Schräge Musik field modified Bf110, one of two such NJG5 machines that sortied out of Parchim that evening.

So now I have another information hunt as above.

I have of course scoured the web and found not a lot. I suspect that what I’m looking for may not be on the web.

If any of you (Kev et al?) have personal acquaintance with either Martin Middlebrook or Peter Spoden, perhaps you could let me know? Either of those two gentlemen may be of help.

Many thanks, Don

🙂 I hope you are successful in your search for information.
Quite rightly personal details should be kept to a PM unless you want the information released BUT could i ask that you keep us all updated on the past, present and hopefully future of the search as it sounds really fascinating.:)

Don,

In view of your current location would I be right to presume that your uncle was F/S L F English?

I am actively engaged in several 619 Squadron related research projects, with varying degrees of success and I have some European contacts that might be able to help in your quest. On one project they have managed to secure copies of night-fighter intercept reports from Holland that we believe shot down Lancaster ME846 from 619 Squadron in June 1944.

If you PM me an email address we could perhaps communicate off board. 🙂

Some background

Thanks TwinOtter and Trumper

Here are a couple of other threads that will give you some context.

This thread … has a brief insight into my step-Uncle Lloyd English. At the time of creating that thread I had good intentions of putting a lot of info on line, alas I simply haven’t had the time, and to be honest my inclination was ebbed and flowed. You need an obsession to get into this.

Another thread … refers again to Lloyd and his two friends Les and Eric. The three of them went through training together and were inseparable. They were all killed.

At the end of the second thread I refer to a puzzle I’ve had for years regarding the location (and it follows the time) he was shot down. Theo Boiten (author of the Nachtjagd War Diaries) has matched Peter Ehrhardt’s claim to the loss. That is at the first location (i.e. as also identified by Martin Middlebrook). I am in contact with Theo to put my mind at rest (that I have been barking up the wrong tree so to speak).

I will post more here as I find out more about Lt Ehrhardt.

TO … I’ll send you a PM shortly.

Cheers D

Don,

I became involved with 619 Squadron in 2005, initially through one of their crews having trained with 1661 HCU at RAF Winthorpe. That developed significantly and part of my aim is to ensure that they no longer are “The Forgotten Squadron”. Yesterday I booked in for this year’s 619 Squadron Association Reunion, which is being held in mid-April; I’m partly double booked with the NAM Indoor Aeroboot but I will make the Dinner on Saturday night and Church Parade on the Sunday.

The 619 Squadron Association is full of marvellous characters and I may be visiting their secretary this weekend to show him a dedication that is currently being prepared in their honour for a forthcoming edition of FlyPast. I’ll try and send you a sneak preview off board.

I’d forgotten my earlier posts but as I said I’ll try and direct your enquiry into my contacts in Europe.
