SIA A340 UPDATE!

The current 340’s that sit in storage are as follows:

D-AJGP (ex 9V-SJJ): Up until January this year (2003), this 340 was placed into storage at SXF Berlin [Schoenefeld], Germany. It has now been moved to XLW Bremen [Lemwerder (DASA Plant)], Germany. It still sports parts of the SIA livery. This 340 is Currently for sale by BOEING.

D-AGBM (ex 9V-SJI): Has been parked in a storage facility at XLW Bremen [Lemwerder (DASA Plant)], Germany, ever since it was taken out of service. Still in parts of the SIA colours. Currently for sale by BOEING.

D-ASIB (ex 9V-SJG): In storage Outside Lufthansa Technik hangar in HAM Hamburg [Fuhlsbuttel], Germany, minus its number two engine. Still sporting the SIA cheatline. This was one of the 340’s that was due to fly for Air Switzerland.

D-ASIC (ex 9V-SJH): Placed into storage by Boeing after recieving it as a part exchange from SIA. Currently is sitting at HAM Hamburg [Fuhlsbuttel], Germany. Still in bits of the SIA colour Scheme. This 340 was the other aircraft due to be brought by Air Switzerland, but because they fell a victim to bankruptcy before they got their first aircraft in the air, Boeing placed it in storage.

9V-SJA: This aircraft was taken out of service a while back, in March 2001. This 340 was not placed into storage, it was in fact brought by Cathay Pacific back in June of that year and today is flown as B-HXN.

9V-SJC: This 340 was another one that was taken out of service early. It was placed into storage at the SIA engineering hanger in Changhi, Singapore, in August 2001.

The pic below shows two of the SIA 340’s in storage at Hamburg.

Sorry to go on a bit. 🙂

If I remember correctly, Boeing took SQ’s A340-200/300 fleet in as part exchange when they bought 777’s.

Well they have the A340-600 on order so it would seem rather peculiar why they would be phasing out the aircraft. Probably just the older -200/300 versions.

mmm… I hadn’t heard this, if you do hear anymore be sure to keep us posted.

I heard Its the same with SIA, they are getting rid of their entire fleet of 340’s over the next couple of years or so. Two of which were taken out of service at the begining of last year and were placed into storage at Berlin – Schonefeld (SXF / EDDB), Germany. Last I heard they were the two 340’s that new start up Air Switzerland planned to use on their trans-atlantic routes, but because of the airlines never actually getting of the ground, due to financial problems, they are still sitting there today.

Unlikely. They could get rid of one version of the A340, but not the whole model. Because there´s not replacement…the B777 doesn´t fit in their fleet.
