Luftwaffe memorabilia sale

Hello all.

I have entered a large collection of ( ex-RLM, Fairoaks) Luftwaffe memorabilia – Clothing, watches, maps, instrument panels, Aircraft and engine Manuals, photographs, medals, badges…jeez…the list goes on, there are some real treasures…at Dominic Winters salerooms, South Cerney, Glos.

The auction is on May 17th.

The catalogue can be viewed on line at http://www.Dominicwinter.co.uk

The purpose of letting such important artefacts go is to fund the ongoing operation of my vintage flying machines at Old Warden. As nice as it would be to keep everything I have to take a pragmatic view.

Did anyone work out the history for that fin? I remember seeing a werke number on it… That was the star of the auction in my humble opinion.

The Bf 109 tail fin went for GBP 5600,- Oh my god, now you can guess, how much a complete Bf 109 might cost.
Regards,
Herbert

Told ya £500 was a bit unrealistic!

Well done HP!

This was real fun.
Watching and listening online. 🙂
I was lucky with in my eyes the most beautiful and correct panel in that auction. The Bf 109 G-2 for GBP 1050,- Thanks to HP!!!

The Ju 88 panel went as a bargain, too. only GBP 620,-
Someone must be lucky now.

The Revi 16D went for 1550,-
The KG 13 control grip with the column and a bit of Bf 109 E on it went for GBP 3300,- 😮 The Bf 109 tail fin went for GBP 5600,- Oh my god, now you can guess, how much a complete Bf 109 might cost.

Herbert

Hi HP, if you don’t mind me asking, which items did the best? I bet the revi gunsight did well.

Hope you got good money for your panels too.

Cheers

Today

Some of the stuff sold amazingly well. Many went away with real bargains though and good for them!

A fascinating day.

So – how did it go for everybody this morning? Did you get what you wanted?

I had my eye on a very nice photo album but it sold for four times the estimate 😮 and twice what I bid 🙁

And sorry HP – it wasn’t in your bit of the auction.

Aaaaah, model planes.

I remember a certain individual piling into my 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup with his DR1 – first flight of a full weekend of flying. I managed to land most of it and was picking up the rest when Zee German came over and said, ‘I bent my crankshaft on your U/C axle, can I borrow your engine for the rest of the weekend?’

Herr E Pleine

Was hoping you wouldn’t remember me turning your Pup into a solartex bag!

How things have changed and you have now come over to the dark side (zee Germans!)

Hope the auction goes well – wish I had few more bucks!

I managed to land most of it and was picking up the rest when Zee German came over and said, ‘I bent my crankshaft on your U/C axle, can I borrow your engine for the rest of the weekend?’

Like a mug I did!

I gave up scale model planes when I started to collect 1/1 scale.

I still have my 1/4 scale Triplane. A chum crashed it and it was all in a bin bag ready to be chucked out. The only thing sticking out of the bag was the rear fuz and tailplane – it was mangled big time.

I glued it all together and had it flying again in 3 weeks. It must have flown a couple of hundred times since but now gathering dust in the heli hangar.

I might just get it out one of these days.

Me109 tail fin – The auction catalogue mentions ‘later repairs’ to this fascinating piece. In fact, the added bits are internal stiffeners – it would have been fairly flimsy otherwise.

Love to know the history of it.

Surely possible with the serial numbers?

Fingers crossed for OW weather tomorrow. Just off to Sywell ( again) this evening in the R44.. Rumour has it that I might have won a trophy for the Bestmann – thanks Stampe for flying it up today. Sh@t happens…somebody had to do it.

I believe Herr Pleine is, or possibly was, a celebrated builder of scale model aircraft.

Indeed Her Pleine was a celebrated Remote Control RfC ace and a deadly exponent of the turning low-level dogfight with his 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup.

One particularly remembers a low level fight over the Tirpitz at an Elvington airshow – it seems a lifetime ago!

Good Lord, there are some simply amazing items in there. The period magazines and documentation are jaw-dropping… as is that 109 fin and the stein from FFS A/B 115.

Best of luck with the sale, had my wife and I not just purchased a house, I’d be bidding on those magazines!

Hi TT,

THe DH prop isnt mine. My stuff is purely the Luftwaffe stuff in the first section, plus a couple of my old model planes – SE5a, my lovely 1/3 Bowers FlyBaby and the Steiglitz. Those Seidel 7 cyl engines are scarce and, I think were a busting load of money when they were new.

The price on the DH prop might reflect the reserve that the owner is putting on it.

Lets see what happens!

HP

‘Preciate the Dh prop wasnt yours Hairy – sorry I didnt make that clear… did you build the model aircraft yourself or did you purchase them – they’re rather nice!

Must own that i had no idea flying models were so expensive, My Dad has a shed load of them…. (Praps not so nicely built and a bit more battered…..)
