Luftwaffe over Denmark

Sorry – just answered that myself by reading the introduction! They only cover 35,000 out of 120,000 overall.

Yes, I’m just getting to grips with it. In fact, I think there are discrepancies between the Bomber Command records, that website and two other pieces of research done a while ago. EG, the pilot previously understood to be involved does not even appear in their list of officers. Do you know how comprehensive it is? If it was for RAF pilots, I know one or two sources (London Gazette, AIR 27) which could be used. Unfortunately, although the website lists sources, they mean nothing to me because I have never done research in Germany. I shall, of course, be contacting the list and website authors but should be interseted to hear your (independent) view. Thanks.

That site also hosts the database of Lutwaffe Officers, quite a staggering piece of work made freely available.

That’s amazing. Thanks very much for not only the site but the idea to search it for the airfield name. It is rather comprehensive, if not complicated so I shall take some time to look into it.

You could also go to the google search page and input the following (without the quotation marks):

“westerland site:http://www.ww2.dk/“

Three pages of results appear, listing every Luftwaffe unit / sub-unit ever to be based there. You’ll have to trawl through and eliminate the ones outside your desired period of time.
