Hi folks, another newbie joining the ranks here and wanting to pester you with questions already! 🙂
I was having a bit of new year clear out today and came across an old photo album of stuff I’s shot at airshows in the mid-80’s. Needless to say cleaning went out of the window and I spent the better part of the day scanning and restoring some of the shots!
One of the best was this one:

It was shot at the North Weald Fighter Meet in 1985 ( I think!) an features one of all time favourite aircraft the Corsair. This one was Lyndsay Waltons F4U-7 (though I suspect many of you will already know that! 🙂 ) and brightened up many an airshow for me back then. I’d really love to know what became of this lovely old warbird. Is she still airworthy? Does she ever attend shows anymore? etc, etc….
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

It’s worth noting that the Teddy bear on the tail of Walton’s lovely machine was a replacement for the huge stick-on version given out to those a/c which attended the Great Warbirds shows. It was a memorial for Ted White, of Sally B fame. The sticker (one of which I have for when I get my warbird  ) was yellow, and the Walton version which was a painted one to replace the temporary sticker, was white. I’ve been assured that it was a Aeronavale unit marking by someone at a model show… 😀

Wow folks..some great pics there! Brought back some very happy memories. 🙂 I must scan a few more myself and put them up!
I gather from the fact that all his aircraft seem to have gone to new homes the Lindsay Walton is no lomger around. which is a shame. Its an even bigger shame to here that the Corsair has’nt flown for 3 years.. 🙁

Jack Erikson also owns the Spitfire trainer prototype, MT818/G-AIDN.
Would love to see this one flying again – preferably in the UK, of course!

Is there any more pics around of the Stearman?

This statement is not correct! From what I’ve heard, the TBM, P-38, P-47, B-25, PBY and C-47/DC-3 have all flown within the past five years. (and maybe the P-51).

Hi Dennis,
I was give this information by two rather connected warbird guys, both who I have talk to in the past month and we talk about the whole P-38 Mess.
I ask if Jack still fly his stuff and I was told that they haven’t flown for nearly two years but they do run some of the engines.
The Corsair hasn’t flown for close to three years.

While on the subject of this owner: what happened to his Stearman (G-THEA) with the rarely seen closed cockpit? Is is still in the UK?

Hi Septic,
Unfortunate all of Jack stuff doesn’t fly any more. It all has something to do with P-38 Crash that killed Jeff Ethell.

🙁 So much for ‘For French Only’ then. That does seem a remarkably cruel fate for such a ‘pretty’ aircraft. It’s not as if there are’nt enough in US Naval livery already.
Lets hope that one day she finds her way back to Europe and is restored to her former glory.
So what of Lyndsay Walton then? Is he still active on the warbird scene? I seem to remember he owned several other aircraft..

Thanks for the replies guys. Sad to hear that the Corsair is ‘stateside’ now, (from my POV anyway!) and even sadder to hear she may not even be flying anymore.. 🙁

The Corsair is now owned by Jack Erickson, I believe it is still active on the US display circuit.
