Lysander Engine Cowling differences

Trying to get my head around the differences between the Mercury and Perseus engined Lysanders, and knowing there are some Westland/Lysander experts here, it seemed a good idea to ask!

(Also asked here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235002021-lysander-mk-ii-cowling-question/, so there may be some crossover!)

Found these views from a similar perspective that seem to show the differences. The Perseus cowl appears to be shorter and further forward on the fuselage, as the Mercury cowl has cut outs on the upper gills at the rear to clear the top of the fuselage. Most sources give the same length for both types, so presumably the Perseus was further forward for CoG reasons.

The question also exists was there a difference in width as well – any difference may be negligible for modelling purposes, but it would be interesting to know.

Thanks

The Perseus XII had a dry weight of 1105 lbs/502 kilos, a length of 36.3 inches and a diameter over the engine cowl of 53 inches.
And for the Mercury XII a dry weight of 966 lbs overall diameter of 51.5 inches.
But that said I looked on google and found other figures so take your pick.

Yep, the Gills are open on one and not the other, but even then there is a cut away on the top of the Mercury Gills where they meet the nose that isn’t on the Perseus.

Cooling gills open on one and closed on the other I would say, air cooled engine.
