The Lizzie is alive… At 6 o’clock this evening, under a perfect summer sky, the Lysander’s 9 cylinder Bristol Mercury engine burst into life for the first time! From the short first run we learn enough about how the engine is behaving to begin making the necessary setup adjustments to things such as fuel mixture, which will now be finely tuned until they are just right. But before all that begins in the morning, we’d just like to share this amazing moment with you all… What a milestone!
And todays update and pics…:applause:
The next Lysander update is here! From the weigh-in and engine runs, to the adding of our own personal touch in the form of a roundel red spinner and wheel covers. The Lizzie is gathering pace and character with every passing moment as we begin to close down on that first flight! Here are some of the defining moments in the restoration over the past week, Enjoy! https://www.facebook.com/aircraftrestorationcompany/posts/1046747605481906

The biggest surprise about the Lysander for me was hearing one fly and noting that comparative to many other aircraft it was a less noisy. perhaps this was a factor in choosing that engine but ops by SOE were not the main role when it was planned. Very happy to know another will fly soon and wonder where there accounts of the use of the guns?

A lovely thing.
I was at Shuttleworth in April and theirs was parked outside. One doesn’t appreciate the size of the beast until you get close to one. There were no ropes around it…or anyone else…so I spent a few minutes taking it all in.

Really looking forward to this one! This Lizzie is even more cool than Shuttleworths as it’s got guns in the wheel wells haha
