Saw this plane on TV last night for the first time, anybody else know about it? It is the M.55 Geophysica built by MDB in Russia as a high altitude reconnaisance plane. It first flew in 1988 and is now used for high altitude research in ‘competition’ with the ER-2 and WB-57 which are not available in Europe. It is powered by two turbofan engines and has a ceiling of 72,000 feet if I did my conversion correctly. It operates from a base at Forli in Northern Italy.
