M.I.A. RAF Welford Museum???

Heard tell of this museum over the weekend – apparently it has a Dak nose, Substantial Horsa remains and other bits n bobs – found the airfield site on the web but none of its contents are listed in Wrecks and Relics and I dont ever remember reading about it in the ‘usual’ mags –

Does anyone know more about it/has pics/has been?

I understand it is a private museum and may be on an active MOD site….

Welford is probably the only arms dump to have its own exit from a motorway (signed works traffic only) on the eastbound M4 just before Chievely.

Wantage does have a charming squash trophy in it’s sports centre, so it’s not all bad.

For those not in the know, it is engraved with the town’s famous statue of local-boy-made-good King Alfred the Cake clutching a squash racket instead of his sword!

didn’t want to admit I’d ever been to Wantage….

Anyway, you can now triangulate it on a map! Don’t however try to get to it off the M4 without a big green Bedford full of chaps in combats…

Thanks Adrian!

I grew up and went to School in Wantage! 🙂

you beat me to it mate…that website should have all the info needed for RMARG

adrian gray
wouldn’t knock Wantage too much, matey…I live in dear ol’ Diddycote(DIDCOT)

Just a thought(& I know it’s some way into the future,but…)
RMARG have in the past had a presence at the Abingdon Fayre Air & Country Show(www.abingdonfayre.com)..if they do so again in 2006,it may be worth having a word

Where is/was RAF Welford?
I know of Welford in Northants/Leics and one in Warwickshire.

Ben

Its owned by the Ridgeway Aviation Society and is as you say a private museum on an active MOD site. They are a friendly bunch though.

Last I heard they were having to move to a different building on site.

MrOAG will probably have more info.
