Hi,
Following the positive responses received after my last post regarding the life story of P8658 ‘Borough of Morley’, I’m also interested in the life cycle of another, fairly local to the P8658, Gifts of War spitfire, namely the MA819, ‘Barnsley Chop’, partially paid for by the people of Barnsley.
I’ve found some details about the plane on the air history website again I could do with assistance to decipher the abbreviations.
Do you have any information regarding the plane, when commissioned, when and where it was stationed, pilots, when it was decommissioned, etc?
Please include references for any material posted.
An image of the plane would be appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Jeff

Ok, it is Squires gate and its MH 819, not MA 819 later served with 485 Squadron. One of 3 Red Rose named Spitfires funded by the Lancashire constabulary.

I think the parade pic is taken at Squires Gate, seemed to recall it being in a public records office file ( I have extensive files on my home area airfields)

‘Gifts of War’ is still available to buy from Air-Britain. You’ll find most of the information – and much more – in there.

…both these images and the previous request should be acknowledged to Air Britain’s book ‘Gifts of War – Spitfires’ by Henry Boot and Ray Sturtivant.
