The great French Republic has put out a requirement for a new dedicated dogfight missle to replace the Magic 2, the proposal is known as the MACR {Missile d’Autoprotection et de Combat Reapproachment, Self Defence and Close Combat Missile en Anglais}. It’s yet unknown what form this weapon will take and various systems are being looked at but one of the contenders would seem to be a modifed MICA IR. The MACR is expected to be in service by 2005.
