Work starts on £1m airport terminal for a north-south link
WORK on Anglesey’s first commercial airport is under way – bringing flights between North and South Wales a step closer.
The £1m terminal being built at RAF Valley will be managed by Anglesey County Council.
It is expected to be operational by mid-March with two 45-minute flights a day between the island and Cardiff.
Specialist company Yorkon was handed the building contract.
The airport will make use of existing runways at Valley – a busy training centre for RAF pilots – as well as the control tower and base’s fire service.
But last night a council spokesman stressed the airport will operate independently of the base.
The airport will be known as Maes Awyr Môn and has adopted a flying dragon as a logo
Great to see its finally going ahead, but at least now i’ll have commercial traffic near by :p
:EDIT: And before anybody asks, Maes Awyr Mon translates to Anglesey Airport 😎
