Magazine Fokker DR1

Saw a TV ad the other day about a new magazine which gives you the parts to build a huge model of the Fokker Dr1 – 1/8 scale? – with full structural detail. Anyone going to have a go at it?
I think Hasegawa came out with something like this a few years ago, I was wondering if it was the same thing or completely new. It was certainly expensive.

As far as i can see on the mag it’s 99p 1st issue then £3.99 for the following 99 issues. Same as the Titanic, two years to get the whole set.

Hey Black Knight
Have a look at the ad. closely, its in the small print. I think the 1st issue is £3.99 & the following 69 are £7.99. That makes £555.30 !! over 1 1/2 years.

Much much closer to 2/3rds, than 1/2th I think. Even so, it’s an awful lot of money.

I’m currently building the Titanic and the Victory so by the time i’ve finished those i think i will have collected all the little fokkers.
I found a couple of websites earlier that sell obsolete kits in the U.S and the DR1 is going for $800, the Wright Flyer and SE5A are valued at $1000 – $1250 as they are scarce. There is a Sopwith Camel on Ebay at the moment at around £260.

I would love to build it but can’t handle waiting every two weeks to collect it and around £400 for a model is steep at any price.think it better to buy some cheap models and use the rest of cash to get to some airshows and see real aircraft fly.

100 issues at £3.99 = £399.00.
Almost half the price of the Hasegawa originals.

By the time you have bought all the bits, you will have paid over £600 for it…..

I always think these mags are a complete rip off…..

Cheers

I am collecting it. They produced the Titanic which i have got to finish first.
To me it looks like it will be the same kit as Hasegawa released about 20 years ago. I have wanted that kit for years but have never seen one sell for less than £600 for the kit and i have seen one built one for sale at £1800 but that was at least 10 years ago.
Even if you don’t build it, i think it’s worth getting to put away for a rainy day.

Wouldn’t have the patience to wait for the next 5 or 6 small parts you get with each magazine.
