Major new Deenethorpe development?

Heard tell of the following – the rumour mill has been going for a while but its now definitely being considered by the powers than be

plans are being put in place for a multi-million pound development of Deenethorpe aerodrome near Corby, backed by Government funding to β€˜upgrade runway (to 1200 metres) and infrastructure to accommodate a β€˜living’ air museum relocating from Coventry comprising 50+ historic aircraft with the potential to bring in further historic aircraft plus GA facilities.

Anyone know more (yes we can all guess who the Coventry based operator is and yes I know one of their aircraft is already there!!!)

Over to you….

Convair was sold a month or so ago. Going to a nursery (the garden centre type) in Scotland.

Anyone know exactly where in Scotland ?

Again I would be tarred and feathered if I let slip our plans, which are undoubtedly interesting… another tantalising watch this space I’m afraid!

Do ask the right questions aint I!

Which other sites are on the “possible maybe” list for Classic Flight relocation.
Hope you aren’t going too far

Im afraid even the ‘possible maybes’ are classified information at the moment, neither myself or Tom are allowed to divulge any more!

Or more specifically this space: www.classicflight.com

PS The Convair is currently being dissasembled ready for its move, realistically, a new home in Scotland is a good move for this particular airframe, as the pressures of the airworthy fleet meant that it had little attention in recent years here.

I need to speak to the guys at AA to see if they have a Trestle for the front of a Vampire nose. I might put a thread up asking actually!

We don’t do the maintenance on the Vampire at Coventry so I suspect we don’t have any equipment for it i’m afraid. Your best bet will be Area 51 at North Weald or de Havilland Aviation at Bournemouth.

Can you paint glass? They’re a bit limited on power anyway so the added mass would be limiting. πŸ˜‰

I agree with CF sticking around. The space they occupy would else be used for something far more boring and probably commercial.

By the way, I know where there are a few boxes containing mint condition programmes from the 2000 Air Show. Some interesting photos including SIXC in Air France paint iirc.

I’m quite fond of the Vampire and Meteor, especially the Vampire. I love the whistle of the Goblin engine. I need to speak to the guys at AA to see if they have a Trestle for the front of a Vampire nose. I might put a thread up asking actually!

There’s always us commercial students left with our whinnying diesel engines πŸ˜‰

Those little wasps should be shot down. At least paint them red or something to make them more interesting! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

How can you say the only interesting thing that flies from Baginton.

Your forgetting those fantastic Tactical approaches that the Warwickshire & Northants Air Ambulance performed over recent months. Hopefully once they are used to their new Helicopter they will be doing them once more.

It seems to me that Deenesthorpe keeps cropping up in the conversation on a regular basis.

Being at the MAM, I only hope they don’t go. It’s the only interesting thing that flies from Baginton. It will be a shame to see them go. πŸ™

They seek it here they seek it there, they seek a new operating base every bloo** where,
shall they find one who the heck knows, but still it keeps the rumour mungoures(?!) on their toes…
Shall it be east, shall it be west, who the devil knows where’s best,
Why not north , why not south, never mind don’t get down in the mouth,
We”ll consult the spanners ,maybe they will tell,

Alan.

Funny kite to fly…?

Funny kites, well we already operate a Prentice and Twin Pin :p

All we can say at this point is that Deenethorpe is at the ‘serious feasability study stage’, should this result in further positive moves in this direction, then we will not keep it quiet. In the meantime, dont believe everything you read!

Well with Deenethorpe only 20 minutes away by road from home and around 5 NM direct it would mean they would have a DAE on their proverbial doorstep. I do have some concerns as to the current security situation on site there but these could be overcome if finance is available. We shall see.

Hi Will,

Thanks for correct info. As I’m less than 30 minutes from Deenethorpe the thought of the flight moving there is one that would bring great joy to me, so false reports like this annoy me because now I’m almost expecting it to happen (even though I keep telling the brain not to think like that) and if it comes to nothing I’ll have got all my hopes up for nothing. 😑
