Just spent 4 days in the south of Malaysia visiting the Malacca and Johor Bharu areas. Whilst in Malacca I spotted a couple of interesting airframes on display.
The first was in Taman Merdeka (Indepence Park). This was an ex-RMAF Twin Pioneer CC 1, FM-1064. The airframe looked to be in good condition and seemed to have been recently renovated. The paintwork was in very good order and the airframe itself did not appear to have any visible corrosion.
Is this a known survivor? Anyone have c/n details? The data plate was tantilisingly visible through the forward window on the starboard side, but I could not make out any detail.
Thought you might like to see it.
The second airframe was outside the TLDM (RMN) Museum a few hundred yards away. That was a Wasp. This appeared to carry a British type serial (XT425) on the side as well as the Malaysian serial.
Anyone have details on this?

Laurie.

The Wasp is a bit weird. XT425 was a Royal Navy machine which crashed within two years. It was delivered in March 1965, written off in October 1966 when it ditched in the sea off Portland when flying with 829 sqn.
The real M499-07 was XT426 which entered Malaysian service in 1992. A mispaint perhaps?

Arthur,
You are right. I have just spotted my typo!
The serial should read XT426.
Oops!

I remember having a good look at that Twinpin when I was there a few years ago. It looked in good nick then but looks even better now so it’s good to know they’re looking after it.
Wasn’t there a ruddy great railway locomotive nearby as well?
MarkG,
I’m told that there was once a large steam loco alongside the Twinpin. This has now gone.
However, just in front of the aircraft now is a diesel loco and carriage. They are just visible in this other view.

Laurie.
