Malaysia Airlines

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of flying with Malaysia Airlines?
I’ve heard they are pretty good on the whole.
I will be flying mid-September on 744 from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur and later taking a domestic 734 to Penang.
Positive/negative comments welcome as well as any tips for upgrade!!:7

“Why was there a stop in Sabah? Shouldn’t have they just done NRT-KUL-SYD?”

I have no idea, but I think it was possibly fuel related? I don’t recall why, it was 9 year ago now. 🙁

Why was there a stop in Sabah? Shouldn’t have they just done NRT-KUL-SYD? Also, Malaysian has a billboard at SYD claiming business class entertainment in economy class seating, so my guess is they still have the nintendo games. The best feature in my opinion, is on-demand movies. Time flies by quick when you can watch movies at your discretion, and pause them when you have to use the toilet.

RE: Malaysia Airlines

I won’t be flying with them again thats for sure. I once took a flight from Tokyo (Narita) back to Oz via Sabah and KL and the whole affair took over 24 hours!!! Delays to re-feul in Sabah, and then missing the connecting flight from KL (because of the stop-over), waiting for hours at KL to get another flight to Adelaide while eating a terrible fish curry via a voucher from the airline, then, eventually onto Brisbane. What a trip!!! What a nightmare!!

Really good on the long haul flight’s, seat back tv’s, good food and booze. They used to have the ninentdo games built into the seat that you play on with the seat back tv, but I am not 100% sure if they still have that. Otherwise you should enjoy your flight. The Internal flight is only on a 737-4, so whatever you whould expect on a 737-4 really. Penang is beautiful though.

RE: Malaysia Airlines

My memory isn’t what it used to be but I recall MH changed from 773 to 744 last year on the Manchester route due to pax growth. Manchester flights were halted along with various others in 11th September aftermath but restarted 1st April this year.

Thanks for the comments, I’ll post a review when I get back.

RE: Malaysia Airlines

They stopped it briefly didn’t they? and then re-started it. I havn’t heard any definate yes or nos to the plan of scrapping the service.

Does anyone know if CX will ever adorn a stand at MCT again? They stopped some time ago.

My Uncle has flown MH, MCT-KL-Adelaide and vice verser a couple of years back. He had no complaints.

RE: Malaysia Airlines

I have only flown Malaysian on a short hop Singapore-Langkawi-Singapore on a 737-300 i think. They were fine, nice little airport in Langkawi. Are they to discontinue the Manchester service, I heard they might be ??

RE: Malaysia Airlines

OK a flight delay is when a a.c departs more than 30 min after it’s ETD
or arrives more than 30 min after it’s ETA
anything before that is considerd on time.
Most ultra longhauls are a few minutes late getting airborne, but Malaysian is a very very good airline,i have flown them 3 times and they are as good as there Singaporean neighbours!!

RE: Malaysia Airlines

Just a half-hour Kabir? That’s nothing. On flights lasting longer than a few hours, that could be made up in the air, unless you get huge head-winds. Besides, on longer flights, they even have a margin of error time in their schedule to cater for such delays. For instance, UA’s LAX-SYD route has a flight time listing of 15 hours. That’s only a 14 hour flight. I routinely have left at least a half hour after ‘departure time,’ always arriving at SYD on time, if not a few minutes early.

RE: Malaysia Airlines

Malaysian once when it takes off is good….on ground terrible. There flights are delayed too frequently. I did Delhi-KL on Malaysian B777, on the way back it was delayed due to some reason for over half an hour. Otherwise its pretty ok.
