Malaysia Airlines may cancel Airbus A380 order

Malaysian Airlines might become the first customer to cancel an order for Airbus’ super-jumbo A380 because of frustration over delays, Bloomberg reported Monday.

Delivery of the first of Malaysian’s six ordered A380s is more than four years late, and the airline “cannot tolerate” any additional holdup, CEO Tengku Azmil Zahruddin told reporters Monday.

And ignored the reasoning behind my statement? Perhaps there is ignorance being displayed.

You’ll note I did not answer his question. I made a statement.

I don’t think such an ignorant post deserves an answer to be honest.

Why answer it, then?

Must be the heat….. 😎

Seeing that at least 1 airline that has got the A380 has described the B748 in similar terms I hardly think it’s flame-bait or biased. A for the delivery schedule, isn’t that a bit pertinent if MH is complaining about delays to the A380?

Can anyone proposing they take the B748 state when the 1st B748 is going to be delivered and when there is going to be a free spot for a new airline to get secure a delivery? We’ve got to make sure that the competing aircraft can be brought into the fleet earlier than the A380. Otherwise what’s the point of them having yesterday’s aircraft with yesteday’s technology with yesterday’s certification and no chance of further expansion in capacity using that airframe?

MH certainly are unlikely to be simply cost cutting.

No the delays are the likely cause and I am surprised the new Everett baby The Boeing 787 Dreamliner hasn’t come up for consideration with interim leased Boeing 747-8is and 777s in the meantime.

Ofcourse as already posted they could just be seeing a fall in passenger traffic for the foreseeable future.

Could, not would. Nothing is certain. Also, Airbus need to shift them, period. Lotta money to claw back and they can’t edge all their hopes on one airline!

Don’t see Airbus being pushed by anyone on price, when they would have the slots taken up by someone esle.

It may also simply be a ploy to get more money off the price tag for the big beasts.

I was thinking that after a little reflection. I wonder why Malaysian Airlines doesn’t just say that, or would it be commercially inadvisable to do so?

Apparently they are for the 777 series.

The 77W doesn’t quite equate to an A380, which would suggest they have little to no need for an A380.

I personally don’t think it will be a financial issue, MH has a tired long haul fleet and I am sure they would have kept a big bet on the 380 for their fleet expansion.

They should have a wee chat with Boeing. I’m sure they would get extremely favourable rates on some 747-8i

Do you like the A380 then Totty?

Yes, it’s a very pleasant aircraft to fly in.
I live here in the UK and my family lives in Australia and New Zealand. So, when I travel on family business, it’s a long way. Any aircraft that makes a journey of that length a little more tolerable has my vote.
That said, the B747-400 is almost as agreeable, if a little old now.

Silly move. There’s nothing better for long-haul travel.
