Malaysia is set to launch a new space satellite dubbed as the Medium Size Aperture Camera Satellite or MASCAT.The satellite is being built by Astronautic Technology(local firm)with technical assistance from South Korean satellite imaging expert.Eventhough the govt wont admit that MASCAT is some sort of spy satellite but certain features of the satelllite(ability to take details pictures from orbit from various angle)+part of the funding came from MINDEF.It is believed that RMAF and the tactical recce intellingence unit will share the new facility. This will be Malaysia third space satellite after MEASAT 1/2(telecom/broadcast satellite),TIUNGSAT 1(experimental space sensor)and Malaysia first spy satellite.Other nations in the region that do have such capabilities is Thailand with their STAR OF SIAM satellite.
