Went to Windsor for a couple of nights and popped across to Heathrow. After a frustrating time stood on 09L approach where it kept clouding over a local told me there is a place to get ground shots from outside Terminal 5. As I have not taken ground shots for nearly 20 years I checked it out. Literally seconds after I got there a Malaysian A380 taxied past ! If I’d got there 30 seconds later I would have missed it. There is a very small window of opportunity get get photos from here as it’s a tight gap between the edge of the terminal building and a light pole. They also have to be using 09 runways and it needs to be cloudy. Quite pleased with this !

If you are walking out of the terminal walk left to where there is a smoking area. There is a gap where fence stops. You can’t miss it. Parking is extortionate – cost me £7.20 for 90 mins.
Just to save on parking costs..if you park near the mound area for shooting 09L on Stanwell Moor rd at the approach road to T5 you can walk to the terminal in 5 mins
You can get decent in sun shots from that spot once the sun moves around late afternoon

That is a very good question. I don’t think so as once I was at 27R waiting for the Qantas A380 and it came in on 27L. Next time I was at 27L and it came in on 27R ! Grrrr…

Very nice shot Culpano! I can imagine this is a difficult shot to get but you seem to have pulled it off nicely.
