Malta Mug find

Hi chaps,

Myself and a friend found this mug last month, whilst doing some building work at an ex BoB airfield which has recently closed down… There is no makers mark on it and has a large burn scar on the blank side. Any idea’s how old it could be? And also, what the crest relates to?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can give!

Hope the link works!

No need to link.

Malta Mug find

Thanks for your imput chaps! It does look old, but as Tangmere said, I did also think it could just be a bit of tourist pottery. Cheers anyway!

I think you will find that is the Maltese Cross. Not the George Cross.

I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but I remember my grandmother had something VERY similar that came back with her from holiday; for my money, I’d say its probably just a bit of tourist souvenir pottery.

Maltese Crest

I would suggest that is either very late war or post war as the Crest encorporates the George Cross in the centre. I would interested in the method of printing as this will give an indication of it’s date ie is it a transfer or screen printed if transfer it will be flatter screenprint will have a depth of colour to it.
