MAM 26/05/07

Well on Saturday i made my third trip (in 10 years to my shame) to MAM in coventry and i must say the place is going from strength to strength, after my last visit last winter i found the place had had a move around of a couple of things and some of the aircraft had been repainted.

It also gave me a chance to hook up with Martin (Phantom Phixer) who gave me a tour around and opened up some aircraft and also showed me around their phantom (s), even though (699) is very much a work in progress she is still a fabulous aircraft to walk around and see the work they are doing to repair the damage that was done to her while she was BDR airframe, it is just such a shame the other F4 is not repairable in the same way as she had her wings cut off in such away they could never really be put back on 😡 .

So if you have not been before i say go now as the place changes everytime i go there and soon i am reliably informed they will have a Viscount !!, i have put some pics below from my Saturday visit to whet your appetite.

curlyboy, when you click onto your thumb pics it takes you to the load a photo page on the pichosting site and you cant see the larger photo.
What are the plans for the other F4?

Sorry Peter they were not done as Thumbnails but as a larger size but smaller size than the 640×480 i normally use, as last time i put up a picture thread people with dial up connection had to wait ages for the page to load, if you want any larger let me know and i will re post them larger just anyone with dial up your page will be slower.

She was the first Phantom the museum had Peter and the USAF dismantled her for the Museum.

Unfortunatley as Curlyboy states the USAF didnt dismantle her as the book states. The Phantom has a one peice wing and on this one they cut the wings about a foot from the fuselage and straight through the spar, which leaves us with no easy way of putting the wings back on.

Its is a shame to see her that way but………….if she had been taken apart correctly and we had reassembled her would the museum have been able to take the more historic Mig Killer on loan? possibly not.

Im unware of what the future plans are for her as Im not privy to that information.
