MAN info required

Why do they keep 06R/24L shut for a few hours and also has there ever been much 06R departures.

My understanding is that in order to get the Bollin Valley Patnership on-side for runway 2, MAN plc had to agree that it would only be used when neccesary so as not to disturb residents (human and animal) of Mobberley noise-wise. It was decided that 12 – 3pm is generally quiet for movements and so MAN reverts to single runway use then. This agreement is open-ended and can be changed, tho MAN have to provide a solid reason, such as maintenance, weather or aditional unexpected traffic.

The raised earth mounds which give us such excellent viewing platforms of R2 are also part of the attempt to reduce the noise impact on the surrounding countryside

Another part of the same sweetner package was, i believe, MAN plc’s financial contributions to re-landscaping the Bollin Valley with foot and cycle paths.

I dont ever remember an 06R departure.

I wouldn’t have thought this would make any difference, Tommy. Most aircraft are only on the ground for 1-2 hours. I would guess it’s just the luck of the draw.

I would love a 06 Departure, but odds are i will never have one.
Moving on, as im off to a MON 757 is there a chance my plane will be on a remote stand as its coming in positioning from LGW for only 2 hours then off to Kos. Never been on remote parking at MAN.

6R was used for a few hours last week i was told, as there was a problem with 6L. Must have been interesting getting 3 a/c down to the far end hold before the others arrive :p
And must have been a very quick taxi down 😀

6R is not used for departures because there’s no parallel taxiway to the threshold, meaning that a/c would have to backtrack the runway before lining up. There are turning circles on the runway to allow this to happen, but it’ll really only be used for more than the odd movement when 6L is closed for some reason. Likewise, arrivals on 24L are highly unusual for the same reason – backtrack is needed after landing.

06R is normally only used for arrivals. I’ve never seen departures off that runway. Similarly, 24L is normally only used for departures although I did see them using it for arrivals a few weeks ago. I havve no idea why since I had never seen it used before and have not since.

There’s only a few 06R departures a year which is usually used for the likes of Singapore who are fully loaded and don’t like climbing up the hill on 06L.

I think you mean 06L or 24R. I’m not aware of any departures of 06R between 12pm and 3pm.

I think you may be getting your runways mixed up, H4ydn.

06R is very seldom used for departures. When the 06s are in use, 06L is used for departures.

06R is used for departures, definitely between 12 and 3pm most times I’ve been to MAN.

It’s got a lot more to do with maintaining property values in Mobberley and the surrounding area than it has to do with any environmental reasons, IMHO.

Oh, and the vast majority of Irfan’s “old folk” were there long before the second runway was any more than a gleam in a developer’s eye. 😀

I think it’s for “environmental reasons.” Those old folk near the airport… why don’t they move!

06R is normally only used for arrivals. I’ve never seen departures off that runway. Similarly, 24L is normally only used for departures although I did see them using it for arrivals a few weeks ago. I havve no idea why since I had never seen it used before and have not since.

24L-06R used from 0600 till 1200 and then from 1500 till 2200 depending on tfc 🙂

Both runways are normally in use until around midday. Single runway operates until around 15:00 to 15:30, at which time the second runway opens again. This is how it normally works and all times are approximate.
