Suspicious passenger subdued on flight
…A half hour before landing, a flight attendant smelled smoke just as a passenger was coming out of a restroom and alerted an air marshal, federal officials told NBC. The marshal confronted the man, and there were initial reports that the man said he was trying to light his shoe.
But NBC News reported that the man said he was putting out a cigarette, which he smoked in the restroom, on the sole of his shoe.
A search of the man found no explosives, and a search of the plane with bomb-detecting dogs also turned up no explosives…
Well, at least the air marshall had something constructive to do on this flight….

Heck, at least he could have smoked a substance worth getting locked up for! :diablo:

It is difficult to believe that someone would be so stupid as to smoke in an aircraft toilet in the present security climate.
What a berk.

What an idiot! There surely can’t be any airline passenger unaware of the No Smoking laws?
Of course, he MAY have his own private jet where he can do whatever he wants and just forgot where he was…..
Now I’m sure he’ll claim Diplomatic Immunity… if he’s freed, expect a big Qatar order for US military kit!!!

A suspected shoebomber wrestled into submission by air marshalls as fighter jets were scrambled has reportedly turned out to be a Qatari diplomat trying to secretly smoke in the plane’s toilet.
