MAN Southside viewing mounds

Hello All – first post in a long time. I have just returned from the Southside of MAN and was dissapointed to notice that the gates to the 3 southside “viewing mounds” are all locked with new looking, hefty padlocks.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

As a follow-up to all this, are people still using the mounds, despite the padlocks ?

I dont get up there very often now and would appreciate any appreciate any feedback (or PM(s)) as to whether the air-side security or others would get annoyed by my presence on the “wrong” side of the gates ??

PS Lance – i never knew you were a Red – i always thought you were a decent chap…. 🙂

I’m not offended, Paul.

I simply genuinely don’t understand what more you would like to hear. Michael wasn’t guessing – he actually went and had a look and reported back what he found.

As he told us yesterday, access to the Eastern mounds (ie, near the Holiday Inn) is barred by locked gates, while access to the Western mounds (ie, towards the 06R threshold) is still possible on foot but parking is difficult.

If you’re waiting for a definitive statement or explanation from the owners of the land then I hope you’re not holding your breath, because it just isn’t going to happen in here.

We’re really not that important to them.

Hi GA
Really suprised by your tone of reply I thought I was just trying to get some actual fact to the situation
Michael had done a great job finding out what he has but in his own words he was suspecting / guessing and I cant see where I am asking for a repeat of any information just a confirmation if indeed anyone knew, I dont think your reply was just.
I know u are a major contributer to these forums and your photos are superb but I was in no way trying to go over any old information
Apologies for the obvious offence caused

Michael has already told you the latest situation, Paul.

How many times would you like the same facts repeated?

Hi
I am very suprised why there have been no responses to this post
The Southside is a Major Viewing/photo spot in the UK with many visitors many who use this forum
I went to EGCC yesterday but only to the AVP and forgot to ask about the SouthSide
I hope someone here who is local can shed some light on to it

Regards to all

Apparently not Paul,

However, since my first post i have had the time to go back over some of my old spotting places and note that Ostlers lane (far end of R2) has got a new gate across its width which blocks vehicular access and which is locked by the same type of padlock as the southside mounds and now allows only pedestrian access – nearby are new CCC / Bollin Valley footpath signs.

So i suspect this is a plan by CCC / Bollin Valley Partnership to stop the massed hoardes from getting too close to the runway, as the last time i went there the lane was blocked with idiots who just parked their cars in the middle of the lane and then went wandering….

Apropos of the Southside mounds, i also noted some new galvanised metal gates at the top of the hill, which were of a similar design to the ones on Ostlers lane, so i guess they are linked.

I would like to know the legal position re climbing over said gates to access the southside “viewing” mounds – i guess the padlocks are an official “KEEP OUT” ???

Regards – Michael
