Further to my last post, I did a bit of digging on the net and it didn’t take me long to find some info on this jet.

Apparently this is the aircraft that the Emir and Kuwaiti VIP’s use for long range flights. Unlike the rest of the Kuwait Airways fleet, the aircraft (named Al-Jabriya) sports the Kuwaiti Government emblem on permanent basis behind the flight deck windows. The aircraft does operated scheduled flights too, however, the upper deck it sealed and no one is allowed to use it. It is only opened or used when the aircraft is operating on VIP flights such as this one.

Hope this helps.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that with us.

A Kuwait Airways B777 dropped in on us this afternoon for a ‘splash and dash’ en route to JFK. Shame the weather was so lousy, though! 🙁

Nice A320, Martin. I’ve seen that one! 😉

Great pics mate, agree with the others that the 747 is the pic of the bunch!

Cloud_9, many of the Middle Eastern Royal families/governments choose to paint their VIP aircraft in the national airlines colours. Royal Jordanian, Saudia, Qatar to name just a few. The aircraft probably isn’t in your normal airline cabin, more likely in a plush VIP fit with room for the VIP and his entourage.

I may be totally wrong on this one, but I did snap a State of Kuwait A320 at LHR not so long ago in what looked like “normal” Kuwait Airways colours. Grey Area, hope you don’t mind me posting this up 🙂

I’m given to understand that the Kuwait B747 was picking up a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family who had undergone surgery at a nearby private hospital.

The callsign, “Kuwait 001”, seems to tally with this explanation.

Doesn’t the Kuwaiti Royal Family a private aircraft of their own?

Thats a bit much isnt it…a B747 for just ‘one’ person, even if they are royalty!?

Also, just a general question about royalty, do they have the power/right to say to the national airline of their home country ‘Give/lend us an aircraft…or else!’?
