Manchester AVP Price Changes

The prices have been updated this evening for the aviation viewing park at Manchester Airport. The text below has been taken from http://www.tasmanchester.com

What is everybody’s thoughts?

There has been a huge amount of discussion on the new AVP pricing policy which coincides with the introduction of the pay on exit barrier system, as with everything there are loosers and winners with change, obviously MAG have done market research and priced accordingly. I understand that most visitors stay less than 2 hours, these will benefit from a decrease, the changes really hit those staying more than 2 hours. The multi entrance ticket now seems to be an even bigger bargain. ***TAS have nothing to do with these changes***

Cars

* £3 for up to 1 hours stay
* £6 for up to 2 hours stay
* £9 for up to 3 hours stay
* £12 for over 3 hours stay

Coaches

* £12 for Coaches, no limit

On Foot
FREE entry for visitors entering on foot, by public transport and bicycle (not motorbile)

Multi Entry
Multi Entry Tickets are also available please enquire at the Aviation shop’
Get a further 10% off is you are a member of the Aviation Society when you purchase your ticket from the Aviation shop.

The ticket covers one person for one visit and is not transferable.
Tickets can be purchased from the attendant in the entry kiosk or from the Aviation Shop. If you are a member of the Aviation Society and purchase your ticket from the shop, you will receive a further discount of 10%. What amazing value!

Hi all yes i did have a Trident (systems procedure trainer) located at the AVP,but when i was made redundant i was told i had to remove it (after it was agreed that i was going to operate it)….anyway due to lack of funds and lack of a storeage facility i had to scrap it.Anyway i have moved on to another Trident dismantle/rebuildand resotration project that i will not be banned from.

when the 2nd runway was being built i think it was mentioned that the viewing park would be near the fire simulator hulk, at the south-east corner, ie directly across from the pub, but the otherside of the original runway, and sort of behind the new runway, but this never happened

Ah the difference between North & South again. Up North you might get relieved of your car illegally. Down South somebody just clamps and tows away your car and relieves you of a large amount of cash legally. Both as bad as each other really.

Isn’t this where the temporary AVP was? With that crappy portakabin shop?

Back before the 2nd runway was built or even before there was an AVP on the south side. you could drive up a track to a crash gate and park up, or even venture over the rough ground.
Whenever the EL AL flight was due the police used to clear the track and tape it off at the road. Like tape was supposed to stop a terrorist attack!

Orion,

As Bubbles said, the Airport Hotel is a good place to spot from, you do pay £5 to park but you get £4 of that back when you buy a round from the bar. The only drawbacks here are that it gets very busy with families when it’s warm, and once the car park’s full, they turn you away.
Also as it’s a family pub, you do have to keep an eye on your camera, not suggesting that they’re light-fingered but I’ve often seen kids running between the tables and sloshing drinks around, not thinking/caring that people have a grands-worth of camera!

If you’re happy to have no facilities, then continue past the AVP (as if you’d turned out of the AVP and turned left on the main road) and drive underneath the two tunnels, and turn left at the roundabout. That’ll lead you onto a small road where you can park for free. If you walk through the gate you come onto a path. You can either head up the hill to the left and hang off the gate (not recommended in the mud) or you can carry on ahead and up to the perimeter fence. Sticking to the official path, you can’t get a camera through the fence, but you’ll find a gap in the fence which leads you up to a small mound where you have an unrestricted view of both the terminal and the runway. You’re not meant to be there, but the airport police take a regular drive past and are not bothered by you being there. The sun’s behind you here 😀

Pity, I did see some trident cockpit parts on ebay last year, yokes and instruments etc, wondered if that was them? I suppose if it was a SPT (Standard Proceedures Trainer) it may not have had a cockpit shell as such?

Iam sure the lad that rebuild the Mancester Trident said on here a while ago that ,there was a Trident sim either at the airport or being brough there.

Neil will be pleased that you class him as a “Lad” (He’s a doddering old sod in reality)
The “Boy” Neil had to dispose of the Trident sim after he left the AVP. He is still a font of all Trident knowlage but is working on another Trident shaped project.

Went to the AVP today £6 for a 2 hour stay. I asked in the shop if I could buy a 25 visit card. I was told that the sale of these has now been suspended. A photo ID is going to be introduced I was told. Also told that charges are under review.

Please guys at Manchester Airport, hurry up and make up your minds. If the current dithering and constant changing of prices continues people are going to start to drift away from the AVP. While the majority of enthusiasts are sensible our hobby does attract a few nutters. It wouldnt suprise me if out of frustration these few will wind up cutting holes in the fence for camera lenses to poke through, and even worse finding themselves in unauthorised places looking for a vantage point.

Give us a good facility (you have) at a fair price (you have not) and we will use it.

Steve

Apart from the static Trident, was there ever a Trident sim/cockpit at the AVP at some time?

You Northern boys don’t know how lucky you are, I wish Gatwick or Heathrow had its own AVP area!
