Does anyone know what, if any, extra traffic Manchester Airport will be seeing this summer with the games?
I am particuarly interested in any Qantas aircraft (or will the Australian squad be coming via London?)
Thanks all
Regards
Ben

I’m not entrirely sure if they are true, found it on the internet somewhere, though it would probably be profitable for Qantas if you consider that Heathrow is one of Qantas most profitable destinations,it would seem a good idea to establish links to Manchester.

This all sounds great…especially with QF (as my avator image suggests…i’m a bit of a QF fan)
Can anybody deliver confirmations of these rumours?

Is it likely QF will start serving Manchester?I’d heard rumours of that. Also Johannesburg/Cape Town with South African Airways and Doha with Qatar Airways(QR pretty much certain)were also destinations I have heard about.

Not exactley to do with the Commonwealth games but just to let you know that BWIA start flights to MAN from Trinidad on July 14th.Flights will probably be operated by a L-1011 though an A340 is likely for the first couple of weeks due to the events. So that is good news MAN is definately starting to become the LHR of the north!

Best place to look is the TAS Manchester web site nearer the time. At the moment they only have an Air New Zealand 747 listed for Aug 5th.
I would think there will be a few good aircraft in around the time and I’l certainly be up there at the weekends.
I hope it gets like BHX when Villa Park held the UEFA Cup final a few years ago. It was caos will loads of planes (Spanair, Air Europa, Alitalia, Iberia, Futura and 3 Corsair 747 ‘s). They were parking them on the second runway as they had nowhere else to put them.

For both the World Cup and Olympics, a lot of national airlines gave over an aircraft for the national team. I wonder if the Commonwealth games will be the same?
Unfortunate time to host it though. For the rest of the year, events in Japan and South Korea will overshadow all other sporting events.
