I’ve seen it reported that 7000 to 11000 people turned up.

Most interesting comment I’ve seen today is that EK say that the 2 daily MAN services are more profitable than the 3 daily LGW services. Doesn’t LGW have F class offered?! Interesing trade-off in prospect now for MAN and EK – passenger numbers boosted (driven by the need for F class out of here – think someone should tell them that some airlines believe there no such demand for that class out of a regional, and that they need to stop turning passengers away from MAN) but cargo set to drop. We need the 3rd service soon, or we need Emirates SkyCargo to begin!

I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick here. The airport are charging £12 per car for up to 5 people so the place doesn’t get jammed packed with cars with single occupants in them and then there are hundreds who can’t get in. Sometimes it’s difficult to get in the place on a normal Sunday afternoon. I can’t understand what all the fuss is about.

The AVP/RVP has long since stopped catering for the enthusiast, their market is corporate and ‘lizards’. We all know the ‘once in a lifetime’ spiel is just a marketing ploy to get the aviation ignorant masses, in through the gate. Still, it is an historic day for the airport, and as a Manchester enthusiast, I’ll be on the south side to witness the event. 🙂

And daily does mean daily (unlike the press release MAN put out about a daily Stuttgart service that operates 6 times a week!)

Perhaps the press release man should also be put out about paying an excessive £12 for the once in a life time oppurtunity of seeing the daily A380 land!

These are their words in a press release not mine.

Times are meant to be 1225 arrival 1520 departure on 1st September, reverting to 1410 departure on subsequent days through to winter timetable when the times go to 1145 arrival and 1330 departures.

Does anyone know the exact time of arrival? Am I right in thinking its about 12.25? Also does anyone have any idea of the departure time out of MAN?

Its advertised as a daily service, does this include saturdays and sundays? I think as many people will Ill skip the once in a lifetime opportunity and watch it at the weekend instead for a bit less cash.

Would I get a discount if I took a blind friend and promised not to look myself? Or could I get a 50% discount if I promised to use just the one eye?

Why not ask at the payment booth when you arrive?

Make sure to post the video on YouTube. 😀

Will I get a discount if I say I’ll just watch the A320’s?

Do people really pay these prices? Also has the useage of the AVP had any noticeable number drop since the prices have gone up.

If this is the first of many flights into Manchester by the 380, go watch the second flight in and save money, simple.

What is the usual normal price for car parking to watch the smaller Airbuses?

From £3 for an hour up to £12 all day I belive ( and a few other variations inbetween)

I prefer Airbi to Airbuses 😀

Sorry Grey, you beat me to the punch.

In the viewing park? £3 an hour, rising up to £12 for over 3 hours.

Yea and start camping out there 5 days before to make sure we get a good spot. Would be quite cool to see it depart 23L from the southside.

Yea, a total rip off and quite cheeky. A very good point has been made in this thread about this flight being a scheduled service as of 1st Sept. To charge that sort of money to see a “every day” service is pure greed. I could understand if it was a day of events similar to NCL a few weeks ago.

Yeah – I could understand if it was an event, looks like we will have to go to the free section like normal – 🙂

Yet another time for the airport to make money of our backs.
How can you charge £12 , it is a scandal , what about those that done want to pay £12 and only want to stay for the hour or 2 and just pay the normal rate.

To be honest I dont understand the “once in a lifetime opportunity” bit ,WHY ?
Its going to happen everyday , all your going to see differant is a water cannon salute and lots of people.

Did Heathrow do the same when there first one arrived?

IMHO I think it is wrong.

Edit : Just noticed that admission to the AVP is by ticket only that day

It’s a scheduled flight.

Anyone who has paid the “normal” car exit fees recently will confirm that the current management of the Viewing Park do not appear to be short of cheek where admission charges are concerned.
